12 Volt Electric Fence

Does anyone here if any information on building
a fairly powerful 12V electric fence unit.

Has to be rated up around 8 or 10 Joules.
Has to be 12V because no access to mains.
I have tried all the local suppliers in the west
but the 12V models they have are all too low powered.

So next option is to try and build one.
A circuit diagram and a source for the parts
    would be really helpful.

    Thanks.

For something that powerful, I wouldn't really recommend trying to build one yourself, not when you can buy complete units, such as one of these. The HB500 "extra high power" model stores 5 Joules.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Ok, Thanks for the response.
I might give those a try.
    They are a bit pricey
but I don't really have any choice.

Any thoughts on running a 230V mains fencer
from a 12V battery using an inverter?
Would I get away with using a 150W unit
    with a modified sine wave?

    Thanks

    Have a look at

There is also a more powerful version on the Homepage > Projects link.

why does it need to be so powerful ??

get a battery and an inverter and run a mains powered one off that
