"TWO gardai have been convicted of assault following an investigation by the Ombudsman Commission.......The court heard evidence that the complainant had been using the camera on the street when a garda challenged him.As a result of refusing to hand over the camera, he was taken to a garda van where the camera was taken from him and the footage was deleted..........It is understood the two gardai are lodging appeals against the convictions."

Am curious, do guards lose their jobs when convicted of something like this?

They are appealing so the conviction might be overturned. As to losing jobs I hope so, bullies that they are, but I think it depends on seriousness of crime and of course on the outcome of the appeal. Could be wrong

Was the camera guy actually physically assaulted though? And why did the guards take his camera in the first place?!
