I have been on the dole since august and due to difficulty in obtaining my redundancy i have only really been able to look for work in the past two months. If i had found a job i would have been violating the terms and conditions to recieve my redundancy . at first i thought i would have to wait 4 weeks but on the 4th week i worked two days so then i had to wait until a period of 6 weeks went by before i could be entitled for redundancy. I recenty went on holidays which apart from €600 was pre paid for while i was working and from some small savings i had built up whilst working. I was told i would get my redundancy but then my boss stopped answering my calls and eventually said he could not pay it even though he is still operating his company and employing about 7 employees. They are earning a lot more even after taking pay cuts. i was on minimum wage and im owed about €3800 in redundancy. It will take between 5 to 8 months for the government to pay it from the PRSI fund.
i have a car loan for €3600 outstanding but would prefer to have the money to use on education to find work.Out of €816 dole a month i pay out €420 in bills. I really cant afford the price of diplomas and certificates and there are fuuck all course in dublin provided by fas that could help secure a job. At least none until later in the year and even at that they dont seem all that comprehensive.I have over 4 years experiance in office administration and im Pc Literate. The only qualifications i have are the leaving certificate though. I would work at anything for minimum wage but cannot even get an interview anywhere. It really is a lottery.Despite the work experiance i have and the wide ranging duties i had within the last company from data entry to client liasing and recruitment that is all irrelevant. It seems if i was on the dole since i left school it would be no difference. So now i think i will have to move abroad in the hope of finding something at minimum wage in the uk.
All of my freinds that have jobs have only got them because of people they know and i know noone that could offer a job. Some friends of mine never even want to work they were thrown jobs of decent pay from friends and family and quit numerous times only to be given job after job. I apply to jobs that say no experiance nessecery or preferable and i have experiance in that particular area and still get nothing. If the government was not even smart just logical there would be more course in dublin at the start of the year and a wider range. They could also have incentives in place where they offer a loan to pay for a course and take it out my dole each month but instead they ar happy to just keep throwing money away. I dont want the dole and want work but there are som many obstacles in the way. It is safe to say its more likely of me winning on the lottery than finding a job in the near future.
Anyone else moving abroad for similar reasons?

Emigrating is a bit risky if you have nothing lined up though

The government do offer incentives for you to go into education. There is a thing called 'the back to education grant /allowance'. You have to have been out of work for 6 months to be able to get it, and when college starts around again next september you will be fully eligible. Go tallk to a careers advisor or citizens advice about it and they can sort you out.

I have travelled for work, but as was said above, it's rosky if you have nothing lined up. I worked in south korea for 18 months teaching English. I had it all lined up before I went over. They paid my flights over and home, paid for my apartment and then paid me 2.6million won per month (which at the time was over €2,300 but now is only worth about €1,400....stupid strong euro)

I'm in the same boat as you, I have some qualifications though. If I don't have anything lined up by march I will get in touch with my former school and head off back to korea, I don't want to do it as it won't advance my career, but I can't sit doing nothing everyday, it's slowly killing me.

You'd want to sort out that bastard boss before you do anything else. He's a sly fukwit. I really hate cnuts like that. Have a chat with a union rep about labour court action. You dont have to be a union member, you're entitled to advice and arbitration regardless.

ill check out the back to school incentative but will i even get the dole on that still? cause i cant go to college and live on nothing. I enquired with social welfare about working part time and getting the dole. i saw a position for catering assistant 25 hrs a week at minimum wage or at least JLC/REA which i assume is minimum wage. at 8.65 assuming that would be €216 but the dole is €204. I m struggling on the dole and i would be earning less than that when i calculate travel costs to the job. So why anybody would take that position is crazy to me?
Maybe if you want a career in catering but i really dont so theres no reason to even apply for that job. I even applied to work is an intern for free for a travel agent and they said they are reviewing applicants. I cant even secure a job that pays €0.00 . I would only be doing it to gain more experiance in a telesales enviroment. If anybody has any interest in offering an intern position that could add something relevant to my cv please let me know.
