Why do people smirk?

I notice most people that smirk are people that don't know you so they can only be smirking for three reasons.

    Something about your looks.

    Something about what your doing.

Or just trying to appear superior because of their own insecurities?

A lot of women do it, for some reson. It kinda bugs me, coz they dont know who they am or anything about me so what gives them the right.

I would love to actually stop and ask a smirker, what they are smirking at exactly, im sure they would deny it. Actually I did once at a cash register and she said oh im just smiling. hmmm yeah sure.

Wow, paranoid much? i often try not to burst out laughing while thinking of something funny that might have happened earlier in the day or whatever, lifes too short to be worrying about what some stranger had a smile on their face for

Things also bug you in life, should i just keep them to myself and ignore them? Is'nt there pleny of quirky little things that bug you? Did you stop and think oh lifes to short to post that into boards? eh no.

YES I am paranoid actually but i know the difference and im not hallucinating, I know where a smirk is directed and when its a daydream or a lost in a thought happy smirk. ;) yahoo answers had better responses to this question look it up if lifes not to short for ye there.

  • Yes, I know what you mean, OP. Some women are just b*tches. They'll find absolutely anything to make themselves feel superior to you. A lot of shop assistants do the smirk at things you've bought (nothing weird, just clothes they might not have bought themselves) or what you're wearing. It's not paranoia, they do do it. I usually just ignore it.

it must be just a female thing anyway, cause I have no idea what you are on about. The only time I see strangers smirk is when I know theyre thinking of something funny and are trying to hold it in.

It's the kind of thing men are oblivious to, and probably doesn't really happen to men anyway. I get 'the smirk' at least once when I go into a department store, beauty salon or whatever, and I'm not funny/weird looking in any way and don't dress wackily or anything. In fact, the better you're looking that day, the more you get it.

I dunno, any time someone actually asks me what am I smiling at, my mind is usually is very dirty places.
So maybe just take it as a compliment?

I don't know either. Sorry OP but if you are feeling like random strangers are smirking at you it really does sound like your own insecurity. Maybe try to build your own confidence and stop worrying what people you don't know might be thinking about you. The fact of the matter is the probably aren't paying any attention to you at all.
