HDTV and PS2

Do they mix? I'm thinking of upgrading to a HDTV, but I want to hold on to my PS2, and I've heard the picture quality from PS2 games can look pretty bad in comparison with the standard television, with obvious pixelation etc., unless you happen to have the PS2 games-compatible 60GB PS3. Does anybody have first-hand experience of this? Does it depend on the manufacturer of the TV, the cables, or is there just no way around the problem, if there is a problem to begin with? Thanks in advance for any insight or advice.

If you are using the composite red yellow and white cables it'sgoing to look atrocious. However you can get a component cable or wired RGB scart instead and get a much better quality picture. I use RGB scart myself and the picture quality while nothing like the PS3 or 360 it's still good and Persona 4 still looks great.
