Hannigan attacks 'Buffy' movie plans

Alyson Hannigan has criticised plans for a Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie remake.

The 35-year-old actress, who played Willow Rosenberg in the acclaimed supernatural drama, told Cinemablend that she cannot understand why franchise owner Fran Rubel Kuzui is bringing back the character without the involvement of creator Joss Whedon.

Hannigan commented: "[It's] a very big mistake in my opinion. I mean, if Joss isn't involved, it's only the title."

Asked if she would consider getting involved with the project, she replied: "Not without Joss. Joss is the only reason that we would go back. I mean, it's just ridiculous to think of that TV show without Joss. That's just silly to me. And all the fans know that, too, so I don't know what they're thinking."

Whedon wrote the script for the original 1992 Buffy The Vampire Slayer film. He then went on to relaunch the story for the cult series of the same name.

Anthony Head, who starred as Buffy's mentor Rupert Giles on the programme, has previously warned that the new movie could be "a bit like watching a car wreck".

I can't fathom it really. For those who don't know there are rumblings that the show will be relaunched as a film starring Megan Fox. I just can't picture any of the characters being played by any actors other than the originals. They all own their characters.

Also, what Alyson said about the fans not wanting this is key. This is beyond the Terminator franchise because the fans wanted another film, it just didn't work out. Whereas for us I think it's fair to say that we'd all say "No thanks" to a film without the original cast.

I agree, the original cast should be involved in this production

It is a bad idea not to involve Joss they are immediately alienating his and original show fans

    Yeah, bring back Donald Southerland.

No Joss, no way. Anyhow, Buffy was around for a long time and fulfilled its potential. That's not to say that I wouldn't be interested in a movie with the right people involved, but some of Joss' other projects *coughAngel, cough* could do with a proper on screen wrap-up ;)

I say go for it. A film about a vampire slayer is bound to be better than the likes of Twilight.

Joss is never going to go back to live action Buffy anyway so why not reboot it?

Firefly/ Serenity, Dollhouse and Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog were all however excellent. Firefly/Serenity being the best science fiction I've ever watched. I think Joss has redeemed himself after Angel at this stage.

I'd be interested in seeing whatever Buffy projects come out.
