Swine flu, over-reaction?

We were supposed to get a new boiler installed today. So the men arrive and my mam mentions that my dad is sick in bed with flu and not to not go into his bedroom. Immediatly, the man she is talking to asks if it is swine flu, to which my mam responds that she doesn't know, it could be (the doctor has to take a swab to find out apparently, which takes 5 days and he didn't bother with anyway.)

Anyway, having heard that it could be swine flu, the man says that they can't work in the house, even though they wouldn't be in the same room as my dad and they all leave.

Do you think this is an over reaction? Personally I think it is, seeing as how they wouldn't be in the same room as him. May as well stop going to the shops or on the bus if you're going to be that careful.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

A load of absolute crap. (Pig crap???:D) Same as SARS, avian flu and every other ''doomsday'' epidemic that breaks out, after one or two deaths and a big hoolally where the pharmacuetical companies make a mint, it dies out and humanity has dodged another bullet... Wonderful

    All exaggerated by the HSE.

You can die from any strain of flu, it depends on the person FFS.

For all you know the guy has a family member that has other serious medical conditions, or a pregnant wife.. and is genuinely afraid of exposing her to infection

and your mam did say it may be swine flu, so why should he take the chance?

Doesn't mean they were personally worried about getting the flu.

Probably more worried about passing it on to their more vulnerable family members ( babies / elderly parents ) just before Christmas.

Then surely those individuals could leave?

Well you're not really meant to go to work with swine flu, so you shouldn't have to work where there's swine flu, fair enough for them to postpone the work
