Did you pay at the post office or send a cheque to the central office? Do you have a cheque stub?

Rang them Friday, never completed credit card expiration date on form. They sent it back to me nearly two months ago but I never got it. Such a stupid way to get extra points and fine.
Solicitor plus court appearance equals a few hundred quid and a day off work even before fine and extra points.
Going to chat to garda sister of mate of mine for advice, ie should I just not show up. Hate the idea of going to court, does not sit well with me at all.
My own fault for not keeping eye on payment or calling to confirm receipt.

Whatever you do, don't no-show at court.

You made an effort to pay the fine on time, there was a problem with your payment but you never received word back that this was the case. Had you done so you'd have rectified the problem and never come to the attention of the court.

No need for a solicitor IMO, the judge will either go your way or he won't, there's not a whole lot the solicitor can do for you.

Totally agree. Don't waste money on a solicitor for this case.

If you paid the €80 fine by cheque and were outside the 28 days then you should have received the cheque back from the processing office. Again if you paid by cheque on the increased amount of €120 but didnt allow for the 5 days (I think its 5 days) for it to clear, then the fine is considered unpaid.

Alot of people have been caught out like this by using cheques. Just because the processing office receives the cheques they dont consider the fine paid. Its not until the cheque is actually cashed is the fine considered paid.

It was attempted to be paid by credit card.

OP don't fail to appear in court. Explain what happened I have known judges in those circumstances to relieve you of a few quid to the poorbox and strike out the summons. More likely is you're going to be convicted and fined but that's not the end of the world - if you don't turn up however the fine is usually up around the 800 quid mark.

Cheers, yeah date marked in diary. 200 quid and 4 points isn't end of world. Lesson learned, make sure to check these things and more importantly don't speed. SOo not worth the fecking hassle.
