I'm flying with AerLingus next week to Munich and I would like to carry a bar of soap in my carry on luggage with some other toiletries.

The bar is 150g in size and is solid. Can anyone tell me if its covered by the toiletry size restriction ?

It shouldn't be a problem as it is solid. I recently brought a roll-on deodorant without putting it in the special bags, and there was no problem.

I just stick it in a clear bag and just leave it in my hand luggage.

Still to be asked to take it out.

If it's solid it's definitely not restricted.

I usually go by the guideline that anything that could possible cause problems goes into the clear bag, if if I believe something to be a solid or not. I fly so often that I go through security in an automated fashion with clear bag out, laptop removed from case, shoes and belt off and pockets emptied.

As others have said, you will be fine. The reason simply is that there are no toiletry restrictions. You can bring a carry-on bag filled with 10kg of soap bars if you wish. The restriction is on liquids, whether toiletry or otherwise... And since your soap is not liquid, it is unaffected by these restrictions.

Yes, I'm the same when I fly. That time was an oversight. Also, fwiw, I've gone through with perfumes by accident, never with any problems either.

whats crazy is that airports around the world are all so different in their requirements - recently passed through 8 airports and they all had different rules and regs. some wanted laptops out of bag - another one stopped us taking them out of bag (the scanner will pick up anything), some airports we had to take off shoes, others all jewellery. Brought mini 100ml deodorant in airside shop and one airport tried to take it off me.

As is asphalt. So if you are bringing a piece of asphalt, don't forget to put it into a plastic bag :).

it is actually Liquids and Gels..

If in doubt though, there is a Boots airside where you can buy your toiletries if needed. I haven't companred prices, but the couple of times I have used it, it doesn't strike me as being overly expensive.
