Advice for Christmas dress

Hi all.

I need some recommendations. I want to get a dress but not sure what type. I'm tall and a size 16/18. I've a few casual dresses that I wear with leggings and boots but no dressy dresses.
I wouldn't be very confident about my upper arms and back so I don't want anything too revealing.
The only things I can find make me look like a sack of spuds. I can go for a cardigan either but can't find one that looks well with a dress.

I'm a bit clueless about fashion and I want to get it right for a change!

Anyone recommend a style of dress that will be dressy but that I won't feel exposed and uncomfortable in?
I know it's vague but I've searched high and low and can't find anything that isn't strapless or backless.

Try Oxendales website they have some very nice stuff for nights out but instead of a dress have you thought about maybe a nice flowing top and trousers or maybe a skirt

This is something similar to the shape of the Debenham's dress you posted - I bought this dress during the week in coast - it's nice on and I'll wear it with heels for nights out or with tights and boots maybe for Christmas Day. I'm a good bit shorter than you and it's about knee length on me. I'm a size 16 and I found this fitted well in the bust (a lot of other highstreet brands don't - Oasis for example) and I'm the same as you - I don't like baggy tops/dresses, I think they make me look way bigger. They had it in red or black and there was 10% off during the week - don't know how long that promotion is on for though.
