Overdue tax question

I parked up outside a customers premises yesterday, when I came out a Garda was taking down my reg number. My tax was out since the end of October and I hadnt renewed it. After a bit of a chat he told me he wasnt going to issue me a ticket, but I had 10 days to get it sorted, and to produce at my local station.

My question is; I'm heading off to a wedding in a while down the country. If I get stopped, does the previous warning cover me, or do I enter a whole new set of negotiations. I'm sure they must hear it all the time from people so would it be best in taking other halfs car, or would they have a way of checking?

No offence but why not just go tax the thing on your way. Wont take too long and you need to do it anyway to keep the Gardai happy. You might meet someone on an off day that would go to town on you

or do I enter a whole new set of negotiations.

if you meet a cop not as flexible as this guy, there will be no negotiating.:pac:
€60 fixed penalty,& back tax the car etc etc.

The Garda gave you some breathing room, the next Garda who stops you might not be so kind. I saw the following in yesterdays Indo,

NIGHTCLUB owner and impresario John Reynolds had another run-in with the taxman yesterday morning, and it cost him the use of his Porsche.

Mr Reynolds (41), who was recently appointed to the new Broadcasting Authority of Ireland's compliance committee, had his luxury 911 sports car impounded after a garda discovered his tax disc was out of date...

Don't have enough time to get to tax office. Thanks for the replies, just leave car at home until Monday it seems.

How about doing it online and print out the receipt?

You can tax it online now. whats the problem? The pin number should have come out with the renewal form. If you tax it online just print out the recipt and use that while you travel!

Thought you couldn't use the online service once you went into arrears. Sorted now anyway, thanks
