I am new to skype phones can anyone help. I am after getting raped talking to my girlfriend in Belfast for £10 credit thinking it was free. Now Im going to get a skype or Voip phone.

Can anyone help me as in what do I need and what is the cheapest thing and what are the disadvantages?

Is there a lag between speaking on one end and hearing on the other?

Got skype a few days ago. Seems to be raping me. Waaaay more expensive than the advertised rates ie 'this text will cost .089 cents', and it takes 5 cents out of your credit. Landline calls are costing me 16c a minute, just like the mobile rate.

I suggest SIP VOIP not Skype ..... have a look at some of the providers (there are many) ... including blueface.is which I find very good.

If it is possible for you GF to also have VOIP then all calls are free.

I mostly use VOIP for international calls ..... about 2c per minute and less.

All providers will have a call rate chart on their site so you can make comparisons.
After that it is service ...... and there are very few complaints about Blueface so I tend to recommend them.
You can buy call credit with them for a minimum of €5 .... on pay as you go.
If you have more serious call requirements then a prepaid account might be best ..... and you get better call rates too.

You do need to decide for yourself though as everyone's situation is different.

Very little to lose investigating things. ;)
