Back when it went to theatres i saw the promos....i said, typical HSM clone with Vanessa hotel boobs in the flick, meh.

So saw it in the wild, was bored....decided to watch, to my shock it's NOTHING like HSM, it's not your average teen movie either. The writing and directing remind alot of a Sundance or Indie flick. Sure it's got a few tunes....but even then it's not Memorex...it's live!

It's like The Commitments, minus the accents but with a brass section, i'm not saying the movie is great or some "must see", what i'm saying is if you watch with preconceived of what you're gonna get you might be {pleasently) surprised.

It has certain Freaks & Geeks elements, a cameo from David Bowie, Velvet underground get props, and some nice cinematography, especially when they use the old Super8 shots.

Overall what i liked about is that it didn't live upto my expectations, that i got something not advertised on the tin, it's may not be a hit or stick in your mind for long, but you could do worse with 2 hours.

I was dragged to see a preview of it with my 9 year old and was pleasantly shocked by it.
It's about the music the history of modren music and ban influences, here there is a wee bit of teen age dramaz but it's about the music and getting the right sound and what that mean.

It's certainly not HSM or rockcamp thank the gods.

I called this just under six months ago. People laughed at me (I'm looking at you Faceman, seniordingdong) but I thought it stuck out that the premise had been lifted from the commitments and moved to a high school.

Glad to see I can still read trailers...
