Need to get my emissions down

As the topic suggests, I need to get my emissions down.

Car is due for NCT on tue, she failed on emissions last time. I've got new plugs for her recently, been advised to give give it a good drive before hand :D Anything else that can apparently bring down emissions a bit?

I'm looking at getting a Cat, afm and different ecu fitted before to try and lower the emissions. But need some suggestions incase that doesn't happen.

The cars a 1994 E30 318 touring with the m42 engine from a E30 318is fitted. The cat, afm ecu are from a 96 E36 318is (i think) with also an m42 engine. It's chipped as well, which I don't think helps me in any way.

the chip definatly dosent help lol, get rid of it before the nct, replace the sparks, service it, use a few fuel additives and add sum dipotayne before the test, a cat would be a good move, but costly, perhaps if it needs to be replaced try get a universal cat fitted!

I don't have the original chip so not easy to get rid of :p This ones meant to be great those (seems to be) but loves to drink the juice.

She's been serviced not to long ago, less than 1000 miles anyway. Fitted the new plug and fuel filter more recently than that.

dipotayne, thats the name of the stuff. Very little of this or pipes can corrode?

I in contact with a crowd in meath that do exhaust systems and asked them about a cat

emmisions specialists would be your best people to advise ya, i had terrible trouble with my celica with emmisions, never fixed it cause no one could tell me exactally what was wrong with the car lol. ive been told tho, if your car isnt too far out in the emmisions range for the nct, giving the car hell before driving it to the nct center will run out alot of the carbons from the exhaust!

You'd need to post up your emissions test data for anyone to be able to give you technical advise as to probable causes...

Has anyone ever looked at the emissions since all the work was done on the car?

You'll need someone with an exhaust gas analyser to see if the engine is running correctly, if its not, it will never pass an emissions test.

I know nothing about chips or cat but the first thing I would do is to fit a new air filter.

Sorry to hijack the thread guys but my car just failed NCT yesterday on emissions. It's an Opel Corsa 00. Everthing was fine except it failed on the Low Idle emissions. Here is what it says on the Report:

    Exhaust Emissions

    Low Idle CO 1.59%
    (920 rpm) HC 0 ppm

Limits depend on Year of Manufacture

    above 0.5% fail

I really don't know anything about this stuff but it was fine on the high idle and the guy said in the NCT centre that it would usually be the other way around. Anybody know if thi will be expensive to fix? Also my engine light has being going on and off recently so would a good service fix it?

    Cheers

    Here you go;

    NCTFail-emissions.jpg

Dad has an exhaust gasses analyzer but it's for a carbed engine and we're not 100% sure on how to set it up, not that it would work cause I don't have a carbed engine.

Who are the experts to call btw?

had a similar issue before in a Corsa..... the ECU was fcuked.... and caused similar problems, ripped out the ecu and had it changed with a second part and had the MAF sensor changed as well.... worked perfectly after that

How much did that cost to get done?

    Cheers for the reply

She was tested today. Failed as expected.

I got the standard ECU of a mate, didn't fit a oxegen sensor cause the ECU prob won't know what to do with it, car has a cat (I thought it was a silencer :o)

    Here the result:
