k so i applied for a job with a less known recruitment agency- got through first round phone interviews and then had face to face interview- so the manager interviewing me told me not to worry if they dont get back to me quickly and that it could take up to 2 weeks so anyways ive been applying for other roles and a well known dublin city had a simialar job spec so sent my cv in for that- roll onto the middle of my third week since i had my interview and i have been in regular contact with my lesser well know recruiter(he ans all my calls and emails and genuninely appears to be chasing up the position but cannot get through to HR or the manager who interviewed me) so today get a phone call from the well know recruitment agency and he rings telling me he has a perfect role for me-at the end of the conversation i ask about the spec i applied for and he told me it was with x company and that he had filled the position last week- turns out the comnpany is the company i had an interview with-so tried to ring my recruiter and he is on hols and noone else in the office is dealing with the account- my guy seemed genuine when he said he couldnt get in touch with HR yet this other recruitment agency let slip they had filled the role but in the meantime have updated the spec on all the recruitment agencies today.

So what do i do and who do i believe?? my recruiter is out of office til wed but i have the hiring manager's phone number- do i hold on or do i ring and do i believe the recruiter from the bigger recruitment office-aaaghhhh confused??

sorry for the rant but REALLY REALLY want this job

Recruitment "consultants" are no more then salespeople. If the recruiter wanted to sound genuine and believable to you they could do it easily.

    I wouldn't trust anyone.
And what kind of agency lets someone go on holidays and nobody to cover their contacts??? Have they no teammates or even a supervisor who get's cc'ed on all internal emails?

Ditch the smaller company, give the larger company a chance.
Call the hiring manager, be polite and request feedback.

And in the future if you can apply direct to a company do

hi mike thanks for the above- think i need to clear things up

The company is a large multi-national company but its main claims office is down in kerry so the recruitment agency is a kerry agency but the job is in dub as it is a small sub office of 2 people.

The larger recruiter told me the role was gone(by accident he didnt know i had been to interview)but has since updated the ad on irishjobs, jobs.ie etc this morning that the job is free even though he told me at 9am that he had filled it

Totally agree it is very unprofessional that my recruiter has gone off without anyone to manage his contacts.

He is back on wed so would i be better off waiting for him-my friends feel that ringing the company could might backfire as they might want to continue going through the agency

    Guurrrr hate them all!!!:)

Next Wednesday is aaaaaages away and when that recruitment person gets back they need to call the company before they can get you an answer.

Call the hiring manager tomorrow before 10am.
Be polite, be respectful and ask for feedback on your interview and what stage you are at now. If you are told you were rejected, thank them for their time and move on.

And never deal with such an unprofessional recruitment company again

The job may be filled but the new hire probably needs to give a months notice before they start so it might fall through in the meantime. Until that new hire is in the office, at their desk and contract signed it's possible you'll see the job advert refreshed for the next few weeks. Even if the job is gone

The agency who told you the role was filled could be lying also, I've seen it plenty of times. Agencies will tell you they have filled a role so in future you only apply for jobs through them. I wouldnt ring the hiring manager yet as the company might prefer of things are done through the agency. I would ring the original agency back and say you are going to ring the company direct and ask for feedback if they dont do it for you, that should get them moving.

Just what I was going to say! ... large-agency-guy didn't know you'd interviewed, but he may have guessed it from your CV and what you're looking for.

thanks for the reply guys-now im in such a pickle:)

Just Mary/Mr pink totally agree that some recruitment agencies stretch the truth- when i was speaking to the guy from hudsin recruitment the minute i mentioned the origanlly spec I questioned the role I had initially applied for he told me he had filled it

Tried to ring the hiring manager this morn and it is going straight to voicemail which kind of backs up what my guy was saying to me

Rang my recruitment office again and the receptionist confirmed that there was noone there that could help as John is the sole recruitment officer.

When I left my interview the hiring manager told me that I could ring her or John if I had any questions sssooooooooo guessing by her saying that she wouldn’t mind if I rang her
