Adam Beyer, Nathan Fake, Roots Manuva, Skream/Benga, Lindstrom, Autechre

Am I missing anyone else or is the rest just filler, more-or-less?

I'd narrow it down to Autechre!

I mean, I really like others like Nathan Fake, but he played in Cork lately. If one is to travel abroad think you want some juggernauts at a festival...

'Filler' is such a criminal understatement. Apart from Ellen Allien and Autechre I wouldn't even bother seeing the rest of that very very long lineup.

    Joy Orbison

All amazing... Way too much bloody techno on the lineup and the DnB is pretty **** apart from D:bridge, Instra:Mental and Breakage (who'll probably be playing at least half and half DnB / Dubstep), but as a snapshot of what's interesting in electronic music at the moment it's spot on imo...

yeah, looking forward to seeing dbridge and instramental seeing as i missed them in dublin. dj hype used to be unreal, might hit that. i dont think theres too much techno on the bill- too much dubstep can get a bit annoying after a while and it wouldnt suit the main stage- acts like surgeon/authchre are great for that. thankfully FSOL werent invited back. really interesting to see what t++ will be like. also kelpe and lukid would be worth checking out- deadly instrumental downtempo/hip hop. appleblim and peveralist b2b should be good too, pity theres no shackleton- couldv been a nice skull disco reunion.

Line up is good but could be improved, maybe there'll be a few suprise announcements in the next few months,,, The price is pretty good IMO, about £150 (€165ish) for festival ticket and 3 nights accomodation, will have to decide in the next few weeks, anyone here that has actually been, what was it like? would you go again? cheers!

was there last year for the first time. amazing experience- butlins is a perfect venue for a festival. the chalets are very comfortable- nice beds, showers, kettle for tea. the biggers ones come with proper kitchens. they even have a bloc tv channell showing weird documentarys/ music videos. theres parties all over the place at peoples chalets at all hours- theyr cool with that. but at the same time everyone seemed pretty respectful of the place. the line up is fairly similar to last years (with the exception of afx) with the emphasis being on techno and dubstep with some other leftfield stuff thrown in. but id advise wandering around- all the stages are close to each other, if you get bored with one just move to the next. theres music 24hours on friday and sat but stops @ around 1am on sunday. theres also a bar open 24hours as well. theres shops, off liecences n restaurants so you dont really need to bring much perishables with you. the crowd is really diverse, loads of irish ppl- met so many galway heads it was weird, a lot of different ages from aged clubbers to trendy london teenagers. its a cool atmosphere, everyones up for a good time.

i had a great time last year cant wait for this year. most people who go return so thats a good sign of the festivals quality. you dont really need to decide whether to buy tickets until feb, last years sold out just a few days before the event. best thing about it is that whenever your wrecked youv got a bed and a shower at max 5min walk away. see you there.

Xdeletiax thanks so much for your review, it sounds like a really great festival, I'm very enthusiastic about it now!! Is Bristol the handiest airport to fly into do you know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭Rane

I'm planning on going there this year with a few friends. We're flyin into heathrow and then gettin a train from there to Taunton. I like the venue, looks like a cool place with alot of stuff to do in between all the gigs goin on. Probably gonna be an epic night life too.

If ya check http://www.blocweekend.com/venue.html there's a section there about traveling to it. It lists the closest airports as:

The closest airport is Bristol, which is an hour and a half from the venue. The nearest airports after that are, in order: Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton.

I'd be happy with that line up on its own tbh.

Most of the full list I've never heard of.

Yeah it has the makings of a good weekend alright!

Slightly off topic, but meant to say Daroxtar, the Decks stand that you made for my boyfriend is going great, he was delighted with it and it's getting lots of use, haven't been on boards in a while so said I'd let you know, if I know of anyone looking for one I'll send em your way!

Just because you haven't heard of them doesn't mean they're not juggernauts

radioactive mans set last year was lovely. very talented dj.

glad to see surgeon playing on his own.

for some reason i really expected ancient methods to be playing...

Last time i saw Radioactive man i felt really sorry for him... There was stuff on in all three rooms of the vaults, and he was in the middle one... I walked through to go to the jacks at one stage and he was literally playing really stale sounding up-tempo electro stuff for all of two people who were just hanging at the back of the room drinking pints.

    just ordered 4 tickets, I'm quite f-ing chuffed :)

Few of my mates played the Braindrop tent for this last year think it was in Butlins in Suffolk. Couldn't make it myself but I'm mad to go to this. From the look of the lineup I'd say It'll be fairly jungletastic what with Mr Vibert n ting. Might have to order me a ticket.
If anyone goes to this check out Luke's Anger, the guy is well talented. Played our soundsystem a good few times and is alocal Norwich boy

    Well good

Better than Bloc, check out Bangface!!! Much cheaper and some serious acts, snares, vibert, westwood (lol) and our humble Amen-talists! Gonne be epic

Went to this last year in Butlins was by far the best festival I have ever went to and at least twenty of us are heading over from Dublin again this year. Cant wait

i think theres some other big ravey thing in sheffield the same weekend as bloc.. forget the name, but its supposed to be a rouwdier affair harking back to the 90s hardcore era. maybe thats for you... :)
