Hello and welcome to the motorsport forum!

If your looking for a track day mondello do them for both half and full days. Mondello also has a dedicated race school (which myself and a few of other here work at). If he likes the muddy stuff their is the Rally school of Ireland. You can choose what packages you would like. However I would probably wait until after xmas to buy the voucher as the prices may drop.

If their is one thing to take away from motorsport is that its very expensive!

If you looking for a cheaper way, some of the kart tracks do endurance racing which is about 45-60 euro for a 35-40 minute race.

Barring that how about a good racing game if he owns a PS3/Xbox360 or the seasons highlights on DVD?

seasons highlights sounds good - whats the name of that? i am clueless here..

You could also get him a ticket to a Grand Prix or there is a rally school in west Waterford called "rally connections" I think they have a web site or there is a big offroad centre called "Tods Leap"It's near Omagh.

Is that Midland circuit any good? What are the carts like for the person that just turns up with mates for a half hour session?

I've been to Pallas, I'd recommend that although I've not been in a few years but I was never disappointed going there so I can recommend them for a good time. Only thing is that it is the group that goes that makes Karting fun so you need a group of people where as you could get him the Rally school thing or whatever and go with him and listen to him talk crap about it for hours after wards so it would make a good present for him anyway :D

It is a short time but it does seem longer when you are there because you are having so much fun and it will seem long if its a first time doing it too just because everything is new so there is more value there than it might first appear from looking at the page.

If looking at games Forza 3 was just released for Xbox360 and is a great game and not that expensive. It is a simulation game more than an arcade game.
On PS3 you have Gran Turismo 5: Prologue which has been out for a while and is pretty cheap at this stage. If you want to buy him that (if he doesn't have it) then you can also get some PSN vouchers to buy stuff from the store. He can buy what he likes with those and GT: Prologue links in with Top Gear and you can buy episodes on it to watch. However if doing that make sure he has a good Broadband connection.

Hi lightning, I am coming over to mondello to do the intermediate course soon. I had a massive problem last time on the clubman course with gear selection from 3rd or 5th and could only approach the chicane flat in 3rd on the limiter the straight beofre it. Was I in a dud car or shall i expect the same next time?

I doubt it was a dud car, when the above happens the odd time and 95% of the time its the student driver. When a student complains that their is a (possible) problem like the above the chief instructor takes the car out for a lap and checks if their is a problem.

Usually what happens is that the students are trying to get 4th and are going bottom right which is reverse and not 4th. Fifth gear is all the way to top right hand side exactly where it is on most road cars. Just dont panic with your gearchanges and take a second to decide what gear you need.

NO going up to 4th was not the problem, it was finding 3rd from 4th while braking for the chichane.
