Buying a new car, it's arriving early in the new year.

Given that there are going tobe a lot fewer new cars onthe road these days, is it worth getting an alarm? I know people ignore them, but are they any cop as a deterrent?

depends on the car imo, but i have never had a car without an alarm for longer than a day!

maybe one comes as standard on your new car, have you checked?

It's not a mad supercar or anything (new Octavia TDi with all the trimmings).

It's definitely an option, the garage (main dealer) have offered to install it before delivery.

Get an alarm, its small change compared to what you are spending on the car...

Lock nutz as well, if it has Alloys....nothing worse than coming out and having a car and no wheels....

Best of luck with your new motor:)

If they're gonna rob it they're gonna go for the keys. Which will have the alarm fob on it too.

The alaram will only alert you to people tampering with your car or if they're breaking in.
Don't give em the thought of it though. If you've a gps, handsfree then keep em outta site and dont leave the bracket on the window! nothings more a giveaway than the sucker marks!

Yep, am all about the common sense when it comes to leaving loot out in view.

I might go for the alarm anyway. Do many insurers give alarm discounts any more?

I believe if it is an alarm/immobiliser then yes you get a slight discount.

The car will already have a good immobiliser, which means it's going nowhere without the keys. Given that the alarm fob will be on the keyring, I see no reason to cut into the car's wiring and pay for an alarm unless you'll be leaving valuables in the car. Just my 2c.
