    Hey all,

Just wondering what people think. Say you were to get an image, we'll use this for example (it comes up with a Google search for "CV Logo"):

    http://cvhs.pbworks.com/f/cv_logo.jpg

If you were to take that image (or one similar, but nothing too recognisable obviously) and put it on the pages of the CV, in the background of the text, slightly transparent (so it can be seen, but not be obstructive to reading the CV) do you think it would look good and make the CV stand out a bit from the rest?

Or would it just look silly and amateur?

Trying to find ways to aply for jobs, but being a little different from other people.

    Any thougts? :)

Personally think it would look tacky.

I vote a major no for the background image.

Just try and make sure the layout is clear, with enough white space so it doesn't look too cluttered. This will help the info contained within to pop out a bit better without resorting to gimmicks.

No, and even more of a no for that particular logo. Don't know why, but it reminds me of Superman...

No, employers are looking for content in cv's, not gimmicks. Include Education, work experience and skillset, with references if you have room. No more than 2 pages or it wont be read..

Agree with all the above posters. A watermark like that I think makes the CV look like a draft and actually detracts from the professional look of a CV. Just keep it simple and clear.

So that's pretty unanimous then, huh?

Ah well... No harm in asking. Cheers for the feedback guys. Appreciate it.

Recruitment companies enter all the cv data into a database anyway and search that.

The person entering the data is usually a receptionist or non-recruity type so impressing him/her with a cool watermark won't improve your chances any because by the time it gets to the people who make decisions its been washed out to look like every other CV they've ever gotten.

that sort of thing looks terrible! I do find that a C.V looks more professional when its simple, well laid out, and to the point, but not lacking in information, although printing on a nice quality paper can add a little extra to it.

Don't put a watermark on your CV. If the recruiter photocopies the CV, to give to someone else in the company or make a file copy, the watermark will become darker and obscure the text over it.
    Bad idea

    ridiculous !

It would just be like going to an interview in a pink bunny rabbit outfit.

    No , very bad idea.

Think about how it will look after been printed on a b&w printer , then photocopied.

Ah well... No harm in asking.

    10/10 for trying though...

also bear in mind, were you to email or apply online with a CV with images, the company firewall may block it, so all your effort would go to nothing, purely for adding an unnecessary gimmick!

CV with watermark / background image / logo = straight in the bin.

Unless you're going for a job as a graphic designer or similar, then keep it simple and easy to read.

I have to agree with the others... images in your CV are a big no.

IMO they make you look like you might be insane.
