I am currently fitting out my bathroom ( 3.1m x 3.3m ) and really want to hang a chandelier but am having major problems finding one suitable for a bathroom. Also want to put a single wall light either side of the mirror to match. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as to alternatives or suppliers.

You should only use IP (Ingress Protection) light fittings in bathrooms and en-suites and in 16 yrs of doing electrical design layouts i have never come across IP rated chandeliers. Lights either side of a mirror should be no problem again make sure they are IP rated, a rating of IPX3 or above should do. Any good electrical retailer/wholesaler should be able to advise you on what best suits your needs.

The bathroom light in the house I bought is an ordinary light fitting to fit a bulb into. No shade on it, just a bare hanging bulb. Is this dangerous? :o

It sounds like you have a pendant fitted in your bathroom which is not suitable for a bathroom, you need a IP rated enclosed fitting. Any good lighting store or wholesaler should provide you with a suitable fitting.
