Fort Hood suspect faces new charges

The US Army today added 32 charges of attempted premeditated murder to its case against accused Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan, who already faces a military trial on 13 counts of premeditated murder.

The new charges stem from alleged attacks on 30 soldiers and two civilian police officers during the November 5th rampage at the Texas Army base, according to a news release from Fort Hood.

Authorities continue to investigate the shootings and additional charges are possible, the release said.

Mr Hasan (39) an Army psychiatrist, could face the death penalty if convicted.

The Pentagon, Congress and the White House have announced probes of whether the military and intelligence officials missed warning signs about Mr Hasan or failed to share information before the shootings.

Intelligence agencies intercepted e-mails between Mr Hasan and Anwar al-Awlaki, a Muslim religious leader in Yemen known for his anti-American views.

A terrorism task force, after looking into the e-mails, concluded that the communications appeared related to a research project and that Mr Hasan didn't pose a threat.

So, boss-addled, mentally disturbed and sleep deprived Jack decides to stalk from one cubicle to the next in a call centre with his AK-47 shooting his co-workers. This is something he has planned for a long time and discussed with his "friends". X number are killed outright or die of wounds, Y number are injured, while Z escape as Jack leaves off a finally volley as people race out the fire escape and across the car park.

How many counts of attempted murder does Jack face?

    Answer:
Jack faces attempted murder charges on Y and Z amounts and X would be pre meditated murder charges or if one of them dies from another medical symptom such as MRSA other than Jacks AK47 shot while in hospital. That would not be murder.

He might say he got enraged and let loose on z group but only meant to murder x and y group, but probably would still be attempted murder.

What if he only had 30 bullets and X+Y+Z>30?

Note, sometimes a single bullet can kill more than one person.

Hmmm Fascinating question Victor.I would have to establish a few more things.

    Does he have a knife?
    Any frag grenades?
    A second weapon?
    Has he got stopping power?

If he has stopping power or extra bullet penetration he might be able to shoot two people through the head with the same bullet, but are any of the people on his team, because he cant kill them.

Y plus Z = total counts of attempted murder.

    No to all.
    Has he got stopping power?

    Excellent research victor.

I thus calculate from my experience on call of duty that he would be capable of killing 36 people and charged with that number of attempted murders minus the number he actually succeeds in murdering which I approximate to be less than 17.

However any additonal ammo hasnt been considered and this would be could be a relevant factor in charging a number higher than the amount of bullets he had loaded if he had additonal ammo that he perhaps left in his car by omission.

If he was truly on a rampage in a small enclosed area with the intention to commit mass murder with 30 bullets and easy access to more if required than the max killing capacity of an ak47 at close range on people in a small enclosed area would be quite high.

A bullet might kill three or four people.

But at the same time, I'm sure Jack would reserve at least 15 for his manager.
