    Hi Clucthit

I think the new drop link bar should be included in the service cost, ya could do this job yourself really.

with regard to the the timing belt, you should check out http://www.micksgarage.ie/ . here you get the cost of the timing belt kit for your car. i got a timing belt changed on a 99 corolla recently, cost €300 all in.

got this down for from €500 in an independent, to €370 in official toyota dealer, to €300 in another officail dealer, so it does pay to ring around and try to play one off another.

I usually pay about €120 for a service for my Fiesta (oil and filters). I have the 1.3 though so no timing belt here :)

mailblaney: I think the timing belt on the Toyota E engines (yours is 4E-FE I guess) is a pretty easy job compared to some other engines. Don't know how the 1.25 Zetec-SE compares to this in terms of labour involved, etc.

    hey zilog

you're almost right!:) i think that was what the dealership expected it to be anyway! its actually imported from the UK originally. its a 1.6SR which makes changing the timing belt a little bit more difficult. I told them all this over the phone, chasis number and all, but were still giving out when i collected the car!

they said it should of cost more, but they'd stick to the price agreed over the phone, as they should.

OP, As a poster said above, its apples and oranges, different part cost, different labour involved for different cars.

In the end, you have to shop around! If a mechanic is given a option of reducing his price by 20% (and still make a healthy profit) or not do it at all, he's going to reduce his price.

Timing belt on a Fiesta with 1.25 Zetec engine requires special tools. I know several mechanics that turn these away. By comparison, doing a timing belt on a Toyota is as easy as falling out of bed ! You can't compare the two.

To me, the Fiesta belt change at 300 sounds good, but the Toyota belt at 300 sounds expensive.

Got the timing belt done on my SAAB recently. Local SAAB dealer quoted 495.00 Euro, got it done by another SAAB specialist for 300.00. It pays to ring around, just make sure you get it done by somebody who won't make a balls of it.

@op, That price sounds very competitive. As has been said your engine requires special tools to change the timing belt(doesn't make it any harder, but equipment has to be paid for).

As for someone saying that the drop link should be included in the service?? What logical thought would there be for a replacement suspension part being included in the service price?

Why should it be included ? IT'S wear and tear, not a service part
