Cost of washing machine repair

Just asking around roughly how much people have paid to have someone look at their washing machine?

Mine is 12 years old (Zanussi) and, to be fair, owes me nothing. Its making a knocking noise now while spinning, so loud I stood watching it while it was spinning this morning. It sounds like a bearing is gone in the drum, but given the age of the machine it could be a lot more.

With cost of getting someone out, then getting spare parts and someone to put them in I reckon it could just be more economical in the long run to get a new machine (eek).

What have people paid for a call out? Never had one before so don't want to be overcharged either, if I go that route.

    Thanks.

I have changed the bearing. Its a bitch but worth the effort.

ps: a washing machine bearing takes about 3 hours to repair. I reckon it will cost about 150 + parts = 200 Euro

Yep, and a new machine would be 300-350 and not be 12 years old and starting to break down :) I reckon this could be the beginning of the end so might cut out the drama altogether :)

    Thanks.

Cheaper to buy a new one in the long run to be honest,You could easily change the bearing and then something else may fail considering its age

Personally had this problem a year ago on an indesit. It turned out to be a fractured spider arm at the rear of the drum.

Briefly what happens is, that when the machine goes on to Spin, the wobble in the drum causes the spider arm to bash off the drum casing/tank. The noise is usually quite loud. It may also be the bearing, but this fault is more of a growling/rumbling noise during the wash cycle as well.

Definitely a new machine is the most sensible option cost-wise. In the meantime just skip the spin cycle.

we got a Beko 8kg new washer in power city recently for just over 300, great value and the extra 3kg makes a BIG difference.

Go on.....you know you want to!;)
