Air Support Counter measures?

Anybody know what the deal is with these? Im usually too excited the odd time I score AC-130 or gunship............do the counter measures deploy automatically? If so, how many are there? If not, is it up the the player to spot a con trail from a rocket and hit a button or something?

I know from the ground Stingers seem to always hit the mark but a locked-on ATH only sometimes hits, i assume this is due to counter measures, the chaff from the AC-130 is visible from the ground but dont always see it against harriers or choppers. Anyone know what the crack is?

From personal experience it depends. I always carry a stinger, even though I almost always use cold-blooded. The reasoning behind this is that not all of your team will have CB as a perk and you don't want the opposition to rack up the kills or get a nuke.

The stinger takes down UAVs, counter UAVs, most helis and the harriers in one shot. I've never shot at a harrier and not seen it blow up. With the Pave Low, Chopper Gunner and the AC130, the first shot from the stinger never takes them down, but if you fire off another relatively quickly it works. I think the flares/chaff/counter-measures recharge after a few seconds if you're not quick enough.

Grand so, Ive taken down lots helis with stinger and ATH, the pavelow though requires a fair auld battering to bring her down. The harriers are the weakest, one rocket and few rounds and it falls to pieces.

I caught the enemy air-drop chopper last night, it was just after it dropped the crate unfortunatly but i reckon it can be done with good timimg, the stinger took just a fraction of a second too long to lock on. Still, knocked the tail rotor off it and it limped off home.

I have taken down loads of Chopper Gunners in one shot from the Stinger but its just luck as alot of times it shoots out flares!

If i die due to air support i swith out to my anti air class and shoot it down as soon as i respawn!

Odds of shooting down a AC130 are very low though

Javelin's dont seem to be affected by counter measures too much

Ive a launcher of some sort for most classes, except sinper and close quarters. Ive noticed a lot that even when the ATH is locked on to a chopper it still misses and theres no visible sign of any counter measures deployed. possible bug?

This can be done alright, but takes a bit of luck. I've only done it once, and that was on Afghan when i had the stinger out and was looking for a UAV. The little air-drop heli just appeared in front of me and i let fly. I'd say your man was freaked.

Is there any points reward for taking down choppers and other air vehicles? I havent been arsed yet to take a stinger with me.

Pave Low takes two but has no counter

the AC130 takes one but has two counters (at a time) so it need 3 shoot in a short amount of time.

I was pretty certain a Pave Low deployed flares when I fired a rocket at it before but not all the time. I just assumed when it didn't, it was because I was right underneath it so it didn't have time to react. Probably way off, I dunno.

if its right above me the counter measures usually dont work...

when its across the map they do but the second shot usually gets them.

odly the hardest thing to hit is a uav in my experience......little buggers just zoom off

i find not that many people are that bothered with shooting down airsupport.i tend to do so if im packin a stinger.
still if u wana cause a mess use an AC-130 on peoples air support along with blowing your opponents to bits, funny reaction from cheesed off americans i did it last night on estate :D

Don't waste a stinger on UAVs, a 2-3 second burst from an RPD is all you need.

yeah, if you are close enough you can bring a UAV down with any standard weapon, close enough that aiming is not too problematic. I too will always bring down a UAV, especially on an open map. They can be hard to find on any built up map though, cant tell you how many times Ive been shot in the nutz while searching the sky.

It's a pity that shooting down an airborne enemy doesn't count in your kills score. They are nearly more important than shooting one person, as they can reap so much damage.

Well, being able to take down air support without letting it get a kill is extremely useful, even if there wasn't any points in it for you. It gets really annoying in a TDM when someone gets a string of kills because nobody is bothering to take out the Harrier that's killing your whole team

Even more annoying, in a built-up map, when air support takes you out just before you get a shot off (or as you press Fire, and hear the launch sound but see no missile), then proceeds to kill 3 or 4 more people while you're trying to find a suitable place from which to take another shot

From what I remember, its 50 for a UAV, 200 for an Attack Heli, 300 for a Harrier, Gunship or AC130 (I think), and 400 for a Pavelow. Just to make it even more lucrative for you to shoot 'em down, onearmbandit :D
Pave Low takes two but has no counter
Pave Low can be taken down with a single Stinger shot if you're using Stopping Power Pro, I think Danger Close does the same.

Also, do the counter-measures always work? I've been in situations where I've taken 3 or 4 shots of a Stinger at an AC130 with no hits, then taking it down (alone, from what I could see at least) with a single missile once I respawned, although it's happened more often with Chopper Gunners than AC130's :P

A great tactic to use on an of the big ones like Pave-lo and AC130 is a pred missile straight into it from above!!

Done that twice last night and went on to win the matches that we were loosing by a decent amount.

i makes a lot of sense and more often then not people keep moaning about getting killed by helis and wont do anything about even when they are carrying support guns or stingers

I have shot down a few, 2 shots from the stinger one after the other does the trick...1st one misses due to the counter measures.

Pave Lows and Gunner choppers, Im not so sure about, haven't shot down many of them...

I am always shooting down UAVs, choppers and Harriers though...it must really sicken the enemy team.
