    Hi,
has anyone bought one of these in Tesco? With the built in freeview reciever does that mean that the channels will tune in automatically when the TV is turned on or will an external dish have to be used.

Also, is freeview transmitted in the Galway city region?

    Thanks
    A very confused Mar 123

Freeview is a UK terrestrial sevice that cannot be received in Galway. The internal tuner has nothing to do with satellite. You will need an external set top box to receive UK FTA channels with this TV.

Only way you could receive Freeview in Galway would be to live on high ground and have a massive high gain aerial pointed North towards either Brougher Mountain or Divis! Even then it might be iffy. Best way to get UK FTA channels would be to go down the Freesat route and purchase a Freesat box and connect it up to an external satellite dish. You would then receive most of channels that are also on Freeview (not Dave/Sky Sports News and one or two others) plus some not on Freeview (e.g. all BBC/ITV varaitions and some others). This way you're guaranteed consistently clear reception of these channels.

Will not work in the mojority of Ireland. Should not be sold here, especially in Galway. May work in parts of Wexford with overspill signals from Wales and in border regions from NI.

LOL, Near enough every tv sold here in Ireland has a freeview mpeg 2 tuner! Lots of very disappointed people here in Ireland when DTT starts. That phrase "Rip off Ireland" will be thrown around a lot i fear.

I brought 1 of those TV's in the North (179£ compared to 249€ here) Its not a bad little TV linked up with a FTA box. Analouge is poor but then all my analouge signal pictures are poor where i live. The inbuilt DVD player plays xvid/divx as well.

I noticed its gone up here to 279€ now, i wouldnt buy it for that price as you'll get a nice little 22"LG from Richer sounds for that price that has an mpeg 4 tuner in. Also have a look at the advert that flashes up on boards here (Bottom of screen) for electrical goods, they stock mpeg 4 tv's at a decent price (Look for TNT HD symbol)

Snaps, there is a difference between LCDs that have Freeview only ie ones with only a Digital Tuner and those that also include an analogue tuner as well.

    Dublin.....

    Big place, that 'Dublin' :D

Look at neighbours houses do they have any large roof mounted aerials?
In certain parts of Dublin you can receive Freeview from either Northern Ireland or Wales.

If it possible in your area and you don't already have a chimney mount then you're probably looking at a pro install cost of about the same you paid for the TV!

I purchased the Technika 22" LCD/DVD (in white) combi today in Tesco, Banbridge for £150. Great value for money. I took a bit of a risk because I was looking for a built in DVD capable of playing DivX/Xvid. It says nothing on the box in relation to this, nor could I find one thing on the internet indicating that it does play DivX. Anyway, I just want to say that the Technika LCD/DVD 22" does in fact play DivX/Xvid and it is perfect. This might help someone searching for this information. ;)

The tv picture itself is not great, i find the contrast struggles in white based pictures. But for the price and the features its not a bad set.
