Cant change down to first gear.

    Sorry, if it was asked earlier, searched bt could not get it.

    Well, Im a learner permit holder driving a yaris for less than one month. My problem is that I cant change down to first gear unless I come to complete hault. It gives me probs esp driving on slopy road in traffic. My frnds advise me that first gear is only for taking off from a complete stop. Its worrying me because I was able to do it before nd it has been a few days since the prob. statred. Any piece of advice appreciated before I contat the garage.

    I'd say your friend is right, you dont need to be in first gear when slowing down, only when "taking off".
    Even in your test, you can slow to a halt in second and slip it straight into neutral.
    First gear is mainly for starting off so I wouldnt worry about it at all:)

    As said above, you only take off in 1st gear. You shouldn't drop below 2nd unless you are completely stopped. It can wear out the gearbox if you change down to 1st while moving. Best of luck! :D
