The budget is set for 9 December. Today (on Morning Ireland) junior minister Conor Lenihan asked that if the unions or anyone else have any ideas as to what the government should do they should tell the government now.
Is it too late to cost new proposals?
Are you surprised that the government doesn't have the main points of the budget set?
Is Lenihan talking of the top of his head?

[To round off the interview Aine Lalor asked Lenihan about recent talk that Bertie Ahern was upset that in the dying days of his leadership both Lenihans (Brian & Conor) were going around 'bad-mouthing' Ahern.
    All very odd.]

If they were bad mouthing him its no surprise really. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

This Govt are clueless. It doesnt surprise me one bit if they dont have the main points finalised.

Its largely to see what peoples alternatives are, not after the budget, when they are moaning. Also this gov have been asking for submissions before now.

RTE is nearly turning into a mouth piece for FF these days, it was like Lenihan and Lawlor were having a joke interview the way they were laughing.
However just to prove how clueless he actually is Conor Lenihan defends Bertie Ahern say he was a great leader who led his party into 3 government....

eh Conor sorry to be the one to break the bad news but this Bertie chap was also leader of the country during which the greatest mismanagement of state finances ever occured hence the need for these extreme budgets to get the state expenditure back on track..

They must have 95% finalised by now with just a few important points to clarify, I don't think they are 100% sure on what they will do with public pay for example, there was a massive rally against the extra hols idea in the media yesterday so doubt that will be put through. I reckon they know that if they are perceived to fudge this budget they are in big trouble, they've been on all year about "making the tough decisions", lets see it or move aside for somebody else to take over.

It is very easy to make a budget submission - you simply email or write to the finance department and state on your letter/email (minister@finance.gov.ie) I would recommend making an open copy to various public sources like the irish times, rte, indo etc - just so your submission is a matter of record.

This is a formal budget submission from

And then state your case. Bear in mind it is read by a civil servant and any suggestion of cuts in salaries will be binned/deleted.

You then simply write in after the budget and aske why your idea was not considered. It is surprisinglhy all part of the democratic process

Ah sure who cares about the budget, so long as the PS still have bricks of cash to throw at eachother.
