All men watch porn, scientists find

    By Jonathan Liew

    Wednesday December 02 2009

Scientists at the University of Montreal launched a search for men who had never looked at pornography - but couldn't find any.

Researchers were conducting a study comparing the views of men in their 20s who had never been exposed to pornography with regular users.
But their project stumbled at the first hurdle when they failed to find a single man who had not been seen it.

“We started our research seeking men in their 20s who had never consumed pornography,” said Professor Simon Louis Lajeunesse. “We couldn't find any.”
Although hampered in its original aim, the study did examined the habits of those young men who used pornography – which would appear to be all of them.
Prof Lajeunesse interviewed 20 heterosexual male university students who consumed pornography, and found on average, they first watched pornography when they were 10 years old.
Around 90 per cent of consumption was on the internet, while 10 per cent of material came from video stores.
Single men watched pornography for an average of 40 minutes, three times a week, while those in relationships watched it 1.7 times a week for around 20 minutes.
The study found that men watched pornography that matched their own image of sexuality, and quickly discarded material they found offensive or distasteful.
Prof Lajeunesse said pornography did not have a negative effect on men's sexuality.
“Not one subject had a pathological sexuality,” he said. “In fact, all of their sexual practices were quite conventional.
“Pornography hasn't changed their perception of women or their relationship, which they all want to be as harmonious and fulfilling as possible,” he added.

This probably doesn't come as a shock to anyone here, we could have told them that and saved them the effort. But in the interests of science, would any Boardsie who has never seen porn please post here.

I expect this to be an extremely short thread.

Wonder how they conducted that study?

Sat down a few blokes in front of computers and see if they could "rub out a solution".

    Sigh.

Demographic group = male university students.
    N = 20.
    Power of study = negligible.
    Bias of study = massive.

Approver of study design = FAIL.
    Funder of study = FAIL.
    Results = FAIL.
Publishing the, ahem, results = FAIL.
Journalist reporting on study = FAIL.

Is this realy what Universities are wasting their time and money on? No wonder so many of them are in the ****ter at the moment. I could have told them these results with something they probably spent weeks "researching"

I think that study is way off. I first watched pornography when I was 6 (sneaked a look at my Dads porno mags). Many of my friends were a similar age.
If the average is 10, then that would indicate there are many angelic innocent 14/15 year olds who haven't look at porn. Hard to believe in this day and age.

Leaving aside this particular study, I really really hate that attitude. David Mitchell put it better than I could.

Science needs to confirm that which appears obvious to us, because you know what? What's obvious to us isn't necessarily correct.
    Anyways, I love this article..

How many old wives tales have we disproved? Nothing is obvious.

Canada is a very "liberated" country with regard to sex etc....my mate lives in Toronto where there are more strip clubs than churches so this doesn't suprise me at all.

now if the study was "what percentage of men have seen that video of the midget, the donkey and that swedish bird" or "what percentage of men found tubgirl a turn on" that'd be newsworthy ;)

Thing is thou, its not only about whats obvious or not, its also about whats relevant or not. Doing a study that determines that 100% of a group of 20 year old male university students watch porn is not only common sense, its also completely pointless and irrelevant. Therefore, its a waste of money

I was in a porn movie. Does that count?

    In your opinion it's irrelevant.
To observe the impact of pornography on the sexuality of men, and how it shapes their perception of men and women
Common sense needs to be verified, end of.

This study will help dispell/confirm the myth that men today view women with less humility and more as sex objects.
Also, as is typical with mainstream media they tend to fcuk things up.
The study did NOT say "All men watch porn"
It said (and remember it was only one particular study of a group in one area of the world)) "we could not get/find any male volunteers aged in their 20s who hadn't watched porn".

Not as bad as the claim that all scientists in the world said in the 70s that the earth was cooling, but misleading nonetheless.
