Anyone got a dealer to import a specific car?

Just wondering if it's been done and what the logistics are?

Banks seem reluctant to offer an unsecured loan, so I'm thinking perhaps an Irish dealer can import, VRT & register the car, then sell it to the customer maybe with a small margin on top, and offering a finance package through their own dealership?

A dealer doing this has to pay the difference in the two VAT rates (currently 6.5%), and has to warranty the car for a minimum of 3 months, neither of which are relevant in the case of a personal import. Also they would run the risk of you changing your mind after they had sourced the car, especially if you wanted something unusual. These costs would have to be built into the price they would quote you, in addition to margin and costs incurred in sourcing the car in UK.

What type of car were you interested in ? Many cars are cheaper here than in the UK.
