The Suir Valley digital service has been switched on. All channels broadcasting on Ch52, Ch56, Ch60, Ch66. :)

    Somewhat different to the proposed Ch52, Ch56, Ch66, Ch68.

What do you mean all channels broadcasting from 52, 56, 60 and 66?

Are the 4 terrestrials on each of the 4 MUX's or are they have one MUX each???

Or are you getting confused with the analogue channels here?

RTE1, RTE2, TV3, TG4, RTENL are broadcast from each MUX. So you have 4 of each channel. Same setup as Mt. Leinster.

Yesterday our analogue service was off for a while, so last night I scanned and found that the digital channels had appeared.

Ill check to see if they are still on when I get home. And post my findings.

Suir Valley analogue transmissions are on UHF channels 53, 57 and 63, vertically polarised.

Suir Valley proposed DTT channels frequencies are 52, 56, 66, 68.

See Comreg document 07/65 (page 40).

However as John C has posted, one of the actual frequencies being used by Suir Valley now (Ch60 as opposed to Ch66) seem to be different to the allocated one. Confirmation needed here perhaps?

Clearly having a go on the allocated frequency for TV3. I suppose it makes more sense... won't they all be moving back to the analogue frequencies one switchover has occurred??

Are other transmitters (i.e. Clermont) going to be using all of their allocated frequencies to test?

Hope so, might give me a better chance of picking up the trial then as 53 isn't achievable here any more. :(

CairnHill has been transmitting DTT channels from 2 muxes for about a week now.

lol is all I can say to the quatro broadcasting.
The esb bill for the 6 or 7 viewers..

I know in fairness they have to say they tested the equipment but the chances of 4 muxes being used anywhere in the republic is nil.

They would be better off selling the other 3 nationwide now as one vision once heels are dragged will eventually let the truth be known ie that they couldn't be wasting money on an un profitable service.

    Just got home,
All channels are still broadcasting from all 4 muxes on the Suir Valley transmitter. With "RTE News Now" replacing "RTENL" on all muxes.

Pity Clermont seems to have been left out from the "all 4 MUX's broadcasting at once" trial. Back at the start I was always getting amuch better signal on C60 than C53, and yet the trial is stuck on C53 only at the moment.

The use of the unused TV3 frequency for DTT is no doubt part of the revised DTT frequency plan in preparation for the Digital Dividend.

All transmitters were allocated eight channels/muxes at RRC-06, six are planned for broadcasting and the other two were planned for other uses such as DVB-H at the time. The other two are now to be allocated to the Digital Dividend (Channels 61-69).

The Dept. has tasked ComReg, the BAI (BCI) and RTE to jointly develop a revised frequency plan for DTT broadcasting requirements and to clear Channels 61-69 for the Digital Dividend.

Suir Valley's allocation is 52 (DTT1), 53 (RTE1), 56 (DTT2), 57 (RTE2), 60 (DTT3), 63 (TG4), 66 (DTT4), 68. With channel 68 now reallocated to 60, channel 66 will have to be reallocated outside the sub-band as part of the Digital Dividend process, channel 63 (TG4) will go at ASO. Other relays with allocations within the sub-band will no doubt re-use the TV3 frequency for DTT if possible.

After ASO the current analogue frequencies will be re-used for DTT where required. In the UK most relays do not carry the commercial muxes this may also happen here with possibly only two PSB muxes at some relays after ASO.

Following the alert about Suir Valley I checked out reception along the road from Waterford to Cork today.

Got reasonable signal once I left WIT - at the TOP filling station near the new private Clinic/hospital my Pinnacle/Happauge scanned and found 2 muxes with same selection - RTE1, RTE2, TG4 and RTE News Now.
Frequencies (needed for those using VLC player) are 642000KHz and 834000KHz.
Got spotty reception all the way past Kilmeaden. Got it again on 642000 West of Dungarvan - but maybe this is from a local transmitter rather than Suir Valley? uh where exactly IS Suir Valley?

The transmitter is situated in Corbally wood about 3 miles NE of Piltown, Co. Kilkenny.

    I reckon :
    642000KHz = Ch42 Mt. Leinster
    834000KHz = Ch66 Suir Valley

The Dungarvan DTT is on Ch62 (which is 802MHz / 802000kHz) and is horizontal polarised

This being up now means they're deviating slightly from the original rollout plan - Suir Valley was a "Q3 2010" turn-on, whereas theres a number of "Q3 2009" sites not up (or I don't know that they're up, could be the case...) like Crosshaven, Kinsale, Navan, etc.

Interesting - I did a retune while in that location and it did not pick up the 802Mhz one. My antenna is woeful though - just a magnetic base 6 inch or so stick-up wire, usually attached inside the van window. Maybe over Christmas I can put some omnidirectional antenna on the roof and "map" that route, and around Cork, a bit better

The Suir valley digital service has been off with the last 2 - 3 weeks.

I reckon they turned it off because of the interferance that was caused to the analogue channels. A lot of people that have masthead amps for the analogue channels had problems because the strong digital signal was swamping the band. The cure was to remove the masthead or replace it with an adjustable gain model with the gain turned down.

any update on tis service my analogue reception is still poor/.

    is it all off again??

    gb--

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 447 ✭✭_John C

Yes, its off now. It should be on permanent by the end of the year. But before that happens Im sure it will be on and off over the next few months, So Mt. Leinster would be a better transmitter to use for now until Suir valley is on permanent.

    Thanks guys!

Just playing around this evening with a tv/monitor I bought mainly for pc and Xbox (LG M2262D from PC world) here in Clonmel.

With a loft uhf aerial pointing in the wrong direction from Suir valley I'm gettting a 2/3 signal level and a pretty stable picture on RTE 1 and 2 and TG4.
