Honda Jazz spark plugs and servicing issues.

The following (in quotes) is from Honest John. I'm just about to buy one, see my original thread below. Does anyone have any knowledge of these issues. The one I'd be buying for the mother would be at least six years old with between 40-60,000 miles.

"High cost of servicing. Valve/cam clearances cannot be checked without removing the inlet manifold, adding £80 to the cost of a service. 2nd annual service can cost £430 including a new set of front pads."

"Servicing is expensive because of the need to re-shim solid lifters and because the engine has 8 special spark plugs. "

I posted the following a day or two ago but only received one reply. Thanks Bazz.

The female parental unit is looking for a new (to her) motor and I've been recommending the Jazz based on press reviews, reliability surveys and the sheer practicality of the fold flat seating arrangement. She doesn't want to spend any more that €4500 but the prices on donedeal, carzone and carsireland seem very strong to say the least.
Are they as good as they say? And will, for example an '02 or '03 hold up for the next six or seven years with an average mileage of 12,000 p.a if the hypothetical purchase already has in the region of 75,000 miles on the clock?
Or should I just go to the UK and bring in a cheaper lower mileage example and mores to the point can they be found there? I've looked online but the prices seem very high everywhere although if I spent £3000 in the UK I'm not sure how much the VRT would be.
    Sound.

The engine has 8 plugs, hence the i-DSi moniker: D is for dual, as in 2 plugs per cylinder. They are not special, but are ordinary €4 NGK plugs. (The engine in the Civic IMA/Hybrid is a close relation, but it does require special plugs which are a bit more expensive). Replacement interval is 40k kms iirc.

The intake manifold is unusual in the Jazz (and not the same design as the IMA/Hybrid). If work needs to be done on the valves or on the fuel rail or injectors then the manifold needs to come off. Upside is it is very accessible and therefore easy to remove and re-install.

I inherited a 1.2 Kool, and drove it for a few months till the paperwork was done. Great little car and very economical. Serviced it twice myself, easier to do than a Civic. Get your mother to drive one. She'll love it.

Bought an 02 model back in 2006 and have had no trouble.
No major trouble or expensive servicing issue. Needed a battery replace in 2008 but besides that fine.

According to the manual the spark plugs are NGK BKR6E-11 or Denso K20PR-U11.

    Google em. Cheap as chips.
