Sorry i have no idea where to post this, so mods pls move to an appropriate forum.

    Hey Guys,

I need some help. I broke off the tip off the my S-video cable (the pointy side) in the socket of my dvd player.

The top part of the yellow plug is broken off in the socket.

The little pointy bit is broken off and completely fills the socket. There are no little edges to pull from with a pliers. So the hole in the socket is completely filled.

My idea to get it out is superglue a small pin or stick to the end that is broken off and pull it out or i could take apart the back (i have no electrical exp so its bound to be a disaster) and push it out from the inside.

Those anybody have any good ideas to try?

    Thanks for your help.

The correct term for the yellow part is "male RCA tip" broken in female plug.

I dont think super glue will work as its a very small area and its likey that you will glue the broken male part into the female part. If this happens use a cotton bud soaked in nail varnish remover (Acetone) to remove the super gule. Keep the power off if you do any work on the device.
The female end is able to grip the male end as its has two metal 'fingers', ie a little bit of metal is bent into the shape of two fingers that are about to lift a very small object. These are a type of spring that grips the male part to ensure contact, it helps the electricity flow. The female end more than likely sits on a circuit board, if you can safely remove the cover (with the power cord disconnected) it might be possible to slip a sharp knife in the slot (imagine the slot being the two gripping fingers!) and loosen them enough to remove the broken pin from the male tip. If you do this remember to gentally squeese the the two metal fingers back to their original positions.

The inside of them sockets is typically open. So with the power off, take off the cover and just poke it out. Just remember opening it up typically invalidates the warranty, which probably isn't an issue if its > 12 months old.

Cheers for the advice guys, i was able to get it out using the advice in this forum: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/car-audio/72711-help-broken-male-rca-tip-female-plug-3.html
Here's the best way to remove a broken male rca pin in a female rca plug:

1.) Find a needle (like the one ya mammy used to hem your church pants)

2.) On a hard surface, bend the very tip of the needle slightly so that it forms a tiny barb.

3.) heat the tip of the needle with a lighter until it glows red hot.

4.) stick the needle into the plastic core of the broken RCA pin

5.) wait a few seconds for it to cool

6.) pull the needle out, and the broken tip should follow!

I added a couple of steps to it after i got it out.

    7.) Pull shirt over head

8.) Run around the living room like a maniac

9.) Repeatedly shout "MacGyver aint got sh1t on me!"
