Ebay / buying netbook

Hi all, I've a quick question about buying on ebay. Why are the ones from the likes of Hong Kong so cheap? I've been snooping about for a fairly basic one, and it's tempting. But I couldn't help wondering what was wrong with them! :o

Can anyone shed any light? Thanks! :)

    Link?

Could be a scam -- if it sounds too good to be true.

Give us a link. You'll have to pay ~25% extra on top of the price though, due to taxes.

Well the likes of these here. They seem to move quite quickly, and I've just seen one sold at around €65. I don't think its a con job, but wondered if it would be suitable for use here or if I'd need another connection or something

    It's pda , not a netbook.

Agreed; they aren't really netbooks at all, just glorified PDAs. Compare:

    7" Netbook
    Screen 7" (tiny!)
    Processor Speed 266MHz
Memory (RAM) 128MB (forget trying to do two things at once!)

    vs

    Dell Mini 10 (~€300):
    Screen 10"
    Processor 1330MHz
    Memory (RAM) 1000MB

and when the product description includes the words "Far Away from viruses," I'd be a little sceptical about what kind of product support is available!

To be fair they are quite good specs for running windows ce. The software for it uses a fraction of the ram/processor that xp software does.

    Op ,
If you want something to write a document , or watch a movie on then these would be ok.

If you want to do anything more (including proper web browsing) then get a real netbook.

Thanks for the info guys. I basically wanted something very small and discreet that I could use for taking notes in college, because theres a lot of writing involved. The plan was to just transfer my notes to my desktop at home afterwards, and maybe for a little internet usage.

So these definitely wouldn't do the job?

Writing notes yes (if you have small hands :D), web browsing no.

    Oh they're very small :D

I could survive without the web browsing I suppose. I was worried I might have to buy extra connections or something so it would work here. Do you think that would be a problem?

The charger is the only thing that may be an issue, but it looks like a standard size.

Maplins have a ce machine at the moment , i'd advise you have a look at one in person.

    They really are tiny.
