First of all, greetings to everybody here, just joined up today and will hopefully be pretty active here in the future, seems to be a friendly and helpful place!

Secondly, I would like to ask for some recommendations for a new laptop.
Recently my old Inspiron 9400 packed in and now I'm on the lookout for a replacement. This time I'm on the lookout for a gaming orientated rig.

I'm not the most technically literate person in the world so I'm hoping the experts here can help me. I hope you can give me advice on gaming laptops that give the most bang for the buck. Preferably for under €850 if thats possible. If not i'm willing to stretch my pocket a little.

Thanks in advance, hopefully you'll have some good suggestions!

"Gaming Laptop" is a euphamism. Unless you want to spend upwards of €1500. And If I was going to spend that much money I would get a desktop; the Price-Performance ratio is too poor on a laptop, and upgrading is almost always impossible. A €1500 desktop can take on a €3000 laptop any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.

I'd put your money into a semi-decent Quad core rig; dont go crazy on ram; and a cheapish GPU. You can upgrade these components with more money later. You'll be much happier with a fast quad core that will last you many years than a fast GPU that you will just replace in a couple.

what I probably should have said was a laptop that could play most new games on higher graphics levels maybe?

I would consider a desktop only I'm in different towns at least twice a week so I'm looking for something mobile-ish. I do have hdtv that can be used as a monitor I suppose but I'm still gonna put a desktop down only as a last resort.

Thanks for your speedy reply Overheal, much appreciated
