After the last cycle I guess there was a bit of cable stretch leading to the outside of the front derailleur cage rubbing the chain when it's on the big ring. Very annoying so tried to sort it out myself...for the first time!!!
Anyway I thought that the problem was lack of cable tension so the logical solution was to increase tension. To cut a long story short I've made a complete balls of it and after tightening the cable tension barrel on the downtube the bloody thing won't move at all now. To top it off I can't seem to relieve this tension now that I've tightened it. Help!

I went onto biketutor.com but it's not great for servicing Ultegra. What to do??

The first thing to do is to set your shifter to low gear. That will slacken the cable. If you have already tightened it too much in low gear, you'll have to undo the cable clamp bolt/nut on the derailleur to release the cable tension. Then, having reset the adjuster, you'll have to reclamp the cable hopefully in the same place...
