Help! Need Home Cinema Advice

    Boardsies help me! I want to buy a home cinema surround sound system and I don't have a clue what I'm looking for. I know I want the following;

    Has to...
    1. Be sony or panasonic
    2. Connect to a giant panasonic vierra tv
    3. Be a 5.1 system
    4. have a dvd player (it doesn't have to be blu-ray)
    5. connect to the sky box
    6. Sound amazing

Wireless rear speakers would be a luxury but probably too expensive. I was talking to a guy in the sony shop but there's too many options. He recommended a DZ280 but I read online that you can't connect sky box to that.

So all you home cinema experts please help!

Max I'm willing to spend is 350...is this too low for what I want?

Ok so it's not Sony and Ok so it's not wireless but how about this - it's a great deal and a sexy looking product - however our real advice would be to look at separates as they really will sound W A Y better.

A quirky option may also be the Onkyo HTX-22HD - I may have a deal coming on this that would drop it to about £269.95 / €299.99 - it's a super system, really high quality (as I'm sure most Boardies here or the general HE Forums will tell you).

Keep me posted and thanks for giving us the opportunity to quote,

    What is separates?
The second one you recommended doesn't have as many speakers as the first one? Does this mean it's inferior?

Oh no Jenna - The Onkyo is a far better unit! see this review This review is for the full 5.1 system - the HTX-22 is the 2.1 system (2 front speakers and a good subwoofer) and you can add the additional speakers at a later date when space or funds allow.

Generally, and I'm sure most Boardies who are into Hi-fi & AV will agree with me - you are better getting a separates system or a system from a manufacturer who specialises in Audio if you want to get the best audio quality from your system.

Separates systems are systems which are built up out of individual components ie a DVD Player, then an amplifier then speakers - these will generally come from different manufacturers if you really want to maximise the quality - if you want an independent view post on the general Home Entertainment forum (but do come back to us ;)) and I'm sure the guys will give you good advice over there..

Keep me posted if we can assist in any way,
