A win is necessary for The Toffees for a number of reasons. Everton can qualify for the next round with a win but something is needed to stop the rot. AEK will be a different proposition at home to the one that lost 4-0 at Goodison, they beat Benfica 2-0 at home already.

Neill and Heitinga are ineligible, Yobo and Distin are injured and from what I've heard Cahill and Pienaar haven't travelled either. Don't know what Moyes will do with the team but if we play half as well as Sunday then we should be able to dig out a vital result.
With all these injuries, Moyes' tactics have to be one of retaining posession ourselves. If he reverts to his instincts and plays hoofball, we won't stand a chance.

If we keep the ball, then they can't attack. Simple.
Game is live on 3E just after 6pm.

Joseph Yobo (hamstring) will miss Everton's trip to Greece this evening after being injury during Sunday's defeat in the Merseyside derby.

Sylvain Distin (also hamstring) is a doubt as David Moyes' side look for a win that will secure their place in the last 32, while Leon Osman (foot) is sidelined.

Lucas Neill and John Heitinga are ineligible, but Jack Rodwell is set to return.

AEK, who will exit the competition if they are beaten tonight, are without defender Sanel Jahic and on-loan Liverpool forward Krisztian Nemeth (both leg).

Jesus, that rain is terrible! The pitch is in bits!

The Everton Team is seriously depleted and they have Jo up front.

All of this and i have to listen to Trevor Welch for 90 minutes.

This better be 9-8 or something.

(Just as i type it's 1-0 to Everton, good finish by Billythekidinov or whatever his name is!)

I was gonna say they'll be close to putting out a Youth Team soon but even the likes of Gosling are getting injured!

Moyes is gonna be on the phone ordering a sh1t-load of Horse-Placenta!

    Who got booked?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,957 ✭✭✭The Volt

    Hibbert

It's lucky for Moyes that he's at the club is he.

Any other club/manager and the press would be all over him by now. The press never take into account that teams get into difficulties like the ones Everton have and go for the neck!

Who the hell is that commentating with Welch?

    I think its Jeff Kenna

Yeah i heard him say "Jeff"

What i'd give to have even George Hamilton commentating right now. Even if he had Jim Beglin with him.

1824: There may not be many home fans around, but they're making their presence felt. Some tinker has been flashing one of those laser pens at the Everton players, and we've had a couple of terrifying explosions. European football eh? Love it.

Just tuned in. That pitch looks absolutely shocking.

Did 3e find some random scummer to commentate alongside Trevor?

From peg_leg5125 on Twitter: "Can you put out an announcement for any defenders in among the Everton fans in Athens? We need them, we are a little short."

Howard 8 - Can have no complaints, safe as a house at the back and made a good save from long range

Gosling 5 - Had no impact on the game during his brief time

Distin 5 - Slipped once before coming off, was nowhere near 100% though

Hibbert 7 - Did very well at CB again

Baines - 6 Good defensively, dreadful distribution

Fellaini 6 - Could have done more and didn't really command the area but OK overall

Pienaar 9 - MOTM again for me, constantly a threat and never looked tired

Coleman 7- Good performance by the lad, dodgy foul at the end could have given away a peno but held his own

Bilyaletdinov 6 - Took his goal well but was largely missing again 2nd half, like Sunday

Cahill 8 - Workhorse of the year, captained the team brilliantly and got stuck in

Jo 6- Brilliant in glimpses, especially the first half, muck and very frustrating in the second
    ______
Baxter 6 - Ended up with a mroe defensive role than he would have liked I think, good display

Duffy 7 - Great debut by the lad, stuck his head in everywhere, won plenty and mad some crucial interception

Yakubu 5 - Completely irrelevant. Looked like a stuffed turkey

Referee and officials were god awful, two offsides that weren't and booking our players for everything, first time.

Agree 100% would not be surpised if Moyes puts in a complaint, one of the worst refs iv seen in a long while.
