Can anyone give me any tips in walking in high shoes. Can't walk in them generally and bought a pair for my xmas party on Friday so need to learn fast!! Is there a knack to it that I haven't found yet?

Make sure they fit perfectly! Wear them around the house to get used to them and shape them to your feet. You'll know then if you need insoles, the jelly yokes or if you need to pack some plasters in your handbag!
For a high heals walk - heal to toe, one foot in front of the other, stand up straight!

Thanks!! Well they seemed to fit when I tried them on in the shop (size 4 were swinging on me). I'm size 3 so its quite often hard to get heels in my size.

Fingers crossed I can tame the high heel!!

Get ones with ankle straps, they stop you falling out of them,. and your toes curling to try and hold onto them, makes life a hell of a lot easier

If you ever did Irish dancing, then cast your mind back to classes - shoulders back, chest out and walk heel to toe, with legs straight.

If you're going to be walking/dancing anywhere with a smooth surface, scuff the soles of the shoes with some sandpaper to get a bit of a grip if there isn't one already.

Rub sandpaper against the soles of them to roughen the soles up a bit - it helps to stop them slipping.

No matter what I do, I can't seem to walk in heels without straps. It's really depressing because I see so many shoes I love, but know I could never walk in them. :(

If I don't wear tights, it helps the situation, but my foot seems to be very narrow between my heel and my ankle (my achilles tendon is really prominent with very little to no flesh around it) which makes it difficult for shoes to stay on. I've tried insoles, those gel things that go behind my heel as well as placing some of the gel strips around the sides of the shoes to try help, but nothing seems to work. I've given up at this stage!

Probably a silly question, but would sticky-tape work I.e, put it on the back heel of your foot and then your foot might actually stick to the shoe?

    I've never tried it though.

I just can't wear heals full stop. Tried a few times but they hurt SO much that I've decided it's just not worth it! I do love the look of them though, which is a pain. Anyway I'm tall so it's grand.

Good luck with them! Bring flats!

Thanks for all the advice girls!! My friend picked me up a pair of heels with a strap yesterday so for the moment I think I'm gonna wear wear them. Having the problem with sliding in them with tights but I'm hoping those gel things might stop that.

Oh flats are definitely coming, have pumps that will go in the bag as my feet will only take so long in heels and standing from lunchtime tomorrow in them will not be good :D I'm taking all the info in as I am determined to learn to wear high shoes as I like feeling tall (I'm a little short ass at 5.3). Must hunt down sandpaper.... Thanks again girlies!!

I can walk in heels, but I have about two pairs that just have annoying backs on them & rub & cut you regardless! One pair is easily solved with a pair of trainer socks on under the dark tights, they don't come up above the shoe so no one knows your wearing them.

Other two tricks I use are:

    - A small U shape strip of foam to fit exactly into the back of the shoe (that's worked soooo many times)

    - Plaster with a very good spongy pad on it, applied where the shoe rubs and hurts, sometimes even stickin it inside the shoe will stop it.

And if you can't lay your hands on sandpaper just give brush off some concrete

You can get tights that are sort of ribbed on the sole, which stops your foot slipping up and down in the heels! :)

Just wander around your house in them, and you'll quickly get used to them! Definitely bring flats though! :)
