Buying a 08/09 car

    Hi All,
I am new to this forum.
I am looking to buy a 08/09 car that is cover by the warranty period for the next year or 2. (assuming a 3yr warranty)

What I was owndering is when I go to garages/dealers to look athe cars can I ask them for free servicing over the period of warranty or is that included within the terms of warranty.

Also, I don't think all motor sales companies do car servicing, so if I have a problem with the warranty period can I go to any dealer of that car manufacturer for servicing?(and would that be free?)

Do I need to request any documents/proof that the car will be covered by the manufacturer over warranty period.

Finally, is it worth having such a car inspected by say AA before I buy it or am I wasting money on a car covered by warranty.

I do plan to take a test drive and have a general look at the engine etc before buying the car.

    Thanks.

Servicing is not covered under warranty, and is an extra cost to yourself. In addition, if the vehicle is not serviced to the manufacturer's spec, your warranty may be voided.

The car will be assumed to be under warranty if its a 08/09, so I wouldnt worry about getting anything in writing for this.

no point in looking at the engine when you dont know what your looking for imo

bring a friend that knows what their looking at or indeed "hire" a competent mechanic for an hour.

    Hi OP,

Welcome to Motors. Firstly you are probably as well off to but from an authorised main dealer. Most Japanese manufacturers provide a 3 year 100,000km warranty. European manufacturers usually provide a 2 year warranty though there are plently exceptions. The likes of Kia often offer a 7 year warranty depending on the model.

Secondly almost all authorised main dealers do servicing. It's a major part of their business.

Thirdly you don't really need much proof that a car is under warranty. i.e. if a car is 2 years old and has a 3 year warranty then the main dealer/manufacturer will automatically provide 1 more year. Just ask the saleman how much of the warranty is remaining.

Fourthly if you are buying a fairly low mileage car from an authorised main dealer I wouldn't bother with an AA check. As you said it's a waste of money.

Forgot to mention: Servicing is not part of the warranty!

OP - Definitely disregard the third point here. The cars warranty can be void for a number of reasons so never automatically assume that it is intact. Rare that this happens but it can happen

Thanks lads for some useful advice.

I was thinking of going to Motokov Cars; they seem to have some good deals.
Any body has any experience of dealing with them?

The advice that a warranty can be assumed was given in the context of my first piece of advice. i.e. buy from an authorised main dealer
