Correct me if I'm wrong, but to counter the despondency on the vid, i.e the lack of full rules, Danny Hoyer (sanshou IKF pro world champ fighter) runs a "Battle of the South" promotion for over ten years in Holland, with every second fight - one pro sanda rules, the next full muay thai rules?
Dec "wudangclan" might be able to confirm, he trains also in Vos, but in my day around 2002 that was the way?
Full thai rules are excellent, I think to my shame as a sanshou coach nowadays that what the Chinese did with King of Sanda was a disgrace, adopting elbow pads, this was political, they made clean throws 2 instead of 3 points and the thais then agreed to elbow pads. Considering that even in amateur Kao shou the Taiwanese San Shou it has elbows and knees, and all European pro Sanda has elbows and knees no pads, its weak of the IWUF to do so. The protection offered I find is in the reduction of the chance of a cut, the power is the same, but lets face it a fighter, going back to the essence of our arts, i.e. self defence, and martial applications, well he must have a good defence, a cut eyebrow means blood in the eye and hindering of vision / lack of range, this is serious and deserving of a TKO. just my two cents. In my day you had a groin guard, 10 ounce gloves and no one got seriously injured unless they hadn't trained properly for it, as we all knew the story. So lads, if its any consolation, its not just Thai that has been compromised with the more tv friendly K1, but also sanshou. My coaches teacher and my own teacher Dan Docherty fought in the 70's with "driving gloves" and elbows and knees, so this story is nothing new, guess its just a bunch of MTV generation softies these days????
How come K1 didn't adopt elbow pads to avoid bleeding? I understand this re. infection and law suits in a big promotion but why ban the elbow altogether?

As they said in the video not many fighters could fight against thai fighters using elbows. They just didnt stand a chance of winning so no elbows in K-1 and similar tournaments.
    Thanks Khannie
