Question: Strobist / Flash Fanatics

Looking to get my first flash this Christmas. I know just enough about flashes to be a danger to myself.
    I am debating between:
    Nikon SB-600
    &
    Metz mecablitz 48

I just don't know how to compare the specs on them.
    Any help?

Need to order by Tuesday so it will be waiting for me in the States.

Theres not much difference between them. Does the Metz fully support Nikon's CLS?

    Toss a coin. :)

I'd get the Nikon over anything else any day if it's going to sit on your hotshoe. It's a flash made by Nikon for Nikon cameras. Maybe I'm biased towards own first party brands but over the years I've used 3rd party brands and they have never really achieved what I wanted or expected.

If in doubt, I'd go for the own brand. If nothing else, third party manufacturers reverse engineer those specs and sometimes they don't get it quittte right, whereas you can guarantee the Nikon strobe is going to be compatible.

Thanks people, I was originally leaning to the Nikon. For the own brand reason, then I have found Gary Fond doesn't have a lightsphere for the Metz.
I am buying a Lightsphere (along with a few other bits), too.

You should save your money and stop making Gary Fong rich by buying his useless products that you'll never use. Get a cheap omni bounce for the nikon flash from kea photo or elsewhere on ebay for €5 instead.
