As low as 10/1 for the Champion after an effortless win in the Royal Bond ,
surely no value in that as he's still more likely to line up in the Supreme Novices - or maybe even the Ballymore .
Regardless , the horses he beat today are a bit short of being Champion hurdle class .

A bit reactionary to the style of win today - effortless. I doubt very much connections will run him in the Champion Hurdle, it's going to be a very competitive renewal this year. They'd be better served letting him take his chance in the Supreme Novices and target the Champion Hurdle next year when quite concievably, a few of the contenders this year might go chasing.

Anyone quoting Dunguib for the Ballymore Properties ( or whatever it will be called this year ) ?
I would be tempted to back him for it at a reasonable price , as I think connections might plump for it if the going in Cheltenham is on the quick side .

Judging by that, Fenton is a man of my own heart and seems to think the Supreme Novices is the target - "novices should stick to novices"

Btw, I'd say this thread is more geared toward the horse racing forum than the gambling one imo, if a mod wishes to move it?

I would agree with you there. At the moment I'd say it is 50-50 between the Supreme and the Ballymore.

By the sounds of things Philip Fenton sees him as more of a Gold Cup horse rather than a Champion Hurdle horse, judging by his post race comments.

He better run in the Novice hurdle (only shortened a fraction after todays victory)

Just had a few squids on him on the exchange at 20s for the Ballymore( now the Baring Bingham hurdle )

For Dunguib remember Cousin Vinny last year, he was red hot fav very early in the betting for supreme novices & we all no what happened there....

Think ill be waiting till the day of the race, not a fan of ante post betting on Cheltenhem!!!

The only similarities are they both won the champion bumper the year before, two completely different animals tbh, and if Dunquib lines up on the day in the Supreme I absolutely guarantee he will be odds on no question.

I'd have my doubts that on fast ground next March that things might just happen too quickly for him in the Supreme Novices , smashing horse that he is I still can't quite see him as a Champion hurdle winner .
He's much more a Gold Cup type horse longterm and for that reason I think he'd be better off going for the Ballymore this year , where he'd look a real good thing and wouldn't come up against some ex - flat Montjeus and Galilleos , and then going over the bigger obstacles for the following season .

If you look down the years I think most of the best RSA/Ballymore winners would also have won the Supreme that year. I'm talking about the really top class winners here eg istabraq, hardy eustace, mikael but hopefully dunguib will belong in that category in a few years.

Also, being a son of Presenting he should be better on better ground?

I agree - you might want to look at paddy power's specials by the way. They're offering 11/8 that he'll go off less than evens, money back if he doesn't run!

Yes , but how many Presentings would be at their best on better ground over two miles ?

Yeah good point but in fairness he hasn't looked trapped for toe so far. FWIW I think the 2m5 is the better option but all indications are for the Supreme
