    Hello all,

New to this kind of jazz. Does anybody know a supplier of good quality .222 ammo? something like hornady vmax? maybe remington accutip or sako arrowheads? Mainly for hunting and accurate enough to play about on paper from time to time? Used to own hornet and had great results with vmax.

I do know that Sean in Stakelums had some at one point so i would be worth giving him a bell, but i would imagine in general you have to order it in.

I got a couple hundred Lapua 55gn soft point from Andersons in Omagh not too long ago, they were £70/100. Got decent groups and the cases are good quality if you're in a position to be able to reload.

Andersons are sound for shotgun ammo as well.

    Right,

Thanks for the input from everyone, made a few phonecalls and should be getting sorted very soon. With a bit of luck I'll have plenty of time and opportunity to put it to good use over christmas! :D:D:D

    Thanks again.

Just out of interest Sika, why did you go a 222 instead of the more popular 223?? is there any benefit?

    hehe :D

Thats a hard question to answer without someone disagreeing! My main reason would be accuracy. It doesnt have much over the 223 and vice versa, both are great rounds. When first introduced (.222) in the sixties I think it more or less ran riot in the target shooting world and had a decent following. Ive read it stills hold some records today and heard it being described as an inherently accurate round along with others (6mmbr etc) amongst target shooters. Decided to go tikka T3 Varmint (tikkas quite accurate for factory rifles IMO) with a S&B 4-16 x 50. Throw good ammo into and you can get nice little 'shamrocks' on paper. Kinda split hunting and targets 50/50, targets being a hobby. Can have a lot of fun with the little yoke. Thats my reasons. As for benefits, people may argue 223 is more powerful and you can shoot longer distance with it, I cant really disagree having only fired friends and not spent enough time with it. 222 can have nice range if you work at it too. Much of a muchness. just went with what I liked.

Its an excellent round, it won a lot of Benchrest competitions and set some records. It is reckoned to be a good 250 yard varminter, and with its long neck its a favourite with reloaders , because the long neck makes it easy to seat the bullet very straight in the case and give excellent runout. If reloading were allowed in this country it would definitley be a good choice for a varminting rifle , as you can use bullets up to 55 grain in the 1:14 twist, there are 60 grain bullets available but they require a faster twist than 1:14...great rifle choice IMO;)
