Advice on painting lighter colour over a sore saturated colour

I am painting a beige/cream colour over a very strong saturated yellow. Should I whitewash the wall before I paint? If so should I dilute the paint a little to make it easier to apply.

I will still give the wall two coats of paint but I want the colour to come out right.

    Thanks in advance.

White undercoat is prob the best way to go. but what I usually do is 3 coats of the paint I am using. It means I can usually start paint the other end of the room I started at when i finish if you catch the drift.
