Moving to Limerick

    Hi!

Am moving to Limerick after Christmas, and looking for some advice on where would be best to live.

Looked at a few places on daft and saw a few places this week down there too. Am looking for some place quiet, and will be working on the Raheen side of Limerick.

Anyone have any experience of Riverpoint, Hartstonge Gate or Ballycummin Village?

Have search the forum and read some very good and some very bad things about Riverpoint - prices there seem to have dropped a lot from reading old threads.

    Cheers!

    Try Myhome2let

    http://www.myhome.ie/lettings

3 Properties in Dooradoyle which is a nice quiet area. Ballycumin would be a very good location for working in Raheen(Industrial estate ?).

Dooradoyle is also a good location although no direct bus service but you can catch a bus from outside the Crescent Shopping Centre.

Riverpoint is a nice building and most apts would have a nice view and its central as well. Also very easy to get to and from Raheen.

I dont know where Hartstonge Gate is exactly but it appears to be on Upper Henry St. I personally do not like this area around Mount Kennet and upper Henry Street.

Cheers Berty. Yeah will be working out in Raheen Ind Estate.

Hartstonage Gate is off Henry St near Anglo Irish Bank. Seems to be a new development of offices (think there is a Government Dept there) and apartments.

Would Mount Kennet/Upper Henry be dodgy at night?

Not dodgy as such. I doubt there would be much risk of getting mugged or anything similar.

The area is mostly occupied by foreign nationals and HSE residents. I don't like the area because its mostly offices around the area so after dark there is nothing around other than a concrete jungle.

I forgot about this. I was looking at this the other day.

    http://www.myhome.ie/lettings/brochure/howley-house-steamboat-quay-dock-road-limerick/148344

Its not actually Howleys Quay(Massive Typo by agent). Its actually steamboat Quay with a nice enough view. Although this area is literally bordering Henry St at least its not overlooked and has a nice view.

I heard of some really bad eggs living in the Ballycummin Village area. HSE job. Be wary.

Riverpoint is a fantastic spot to live. Thats where i'm based. Very secure, great neighbours, very quiet, 99% of the time... Well furnished apartments, great views, and when you're in it, you feel like your outa town while in town!

    Its great!

There's nothing at all wrong with Ballycummin Village. Like any other part of town if you go looking for trouble you will find it.

Ballycummin Village, Church Hill Meadows has plenty of lovely houses, predominantly family orientated. A walk across the road brings you into the industrial estate without having to drive anywhere - unless it's pouring rain. The Crescent Shopping Centre is just down the road. Don't suppose you'd be interested in schools - but there are a few in the area. Laundrymat, chipper (decent one) Clohessy's pub (lovely) new Restaurant up above that, Spar grocery, bookies, café, hairdressers (Angels) and a church at the bottom of the road.

As for the houses - they've all been built in the last 10 yrs or so and are all quite modern. You wouldn't be going wrong if you were to rent there.

And - the bus route for town runs right around Ballycummin/Church Hill Meadows with numerous stops on the way - no 312....

Best of luck in your search.

    Right,

Well, only 1 out of 5 was the only reasonable size. They were very small and I found the kitchens very awkward size and tbh, only a few of them have a good view.
The carpets were filthy, they smelt. We viewed a apartment in the tower and the smell that came from the hallway as we walked in was disgusting.

There was also graffiti on the walls inside the buildings.

I currently live in Lansdowne Hall and Riverpoint comes nowhere near them IMO.

Its a shame that you found that... I viewed 2 apartments when I was moving to Riverpoint, and agree that one of them certainly had a pokey kitchen. Views are very dependent on the apartment, any of the *01's have a fantastic view and the *02's are reasnoble. I cannot speak for the others. But I haven't seen anything of the other things you talk about, i meet our cleaner most mornings when he is cleaning all common areas and haven't seen sight of any graffitti.

Glad you did find a great place to live though, Lansdowne Hall is certainly a nice spot.

OP, I live in the Strand Apartments on O Callaghan Strand. I can honestly say they are the most well specced City Centre Apartments if you wish to locate yourself in the city. Well located, underground parking and very security conscious.

I'm working out in the Raheen Industrial estate as well.

All I can say is Raheen is the nicest place I lived in Limerick for the six years I've been here. Very quiet I live just off father russell road about 10 min walk from work very nice area. Most of Raheen is generally good, I liked churchill meadows when I was living around there also.

You were right jackncoke, the Strand apartments are VERY nice!

Saw two more apartments in Riverpoint, one in each block. Great views from the main block. City Central was nice too, but I'd say it can get noisy there at night/weekends with the pubs and take-aways.

Hartstonge Gate was nice, but the apartments are very dark as you are surrounded by buildings on all sides. The apartments there don't come with washing machines, but instead there is a laundry room on the ground floor - very American!

After all I've seen, I'm torn between The Strand and Riverpoint - but edging towards The Strand.

Been living here in the Strand since the start of September and love the place. It has pretty much everything going for it, and we got a very good deal re apartment/rate. If you have any queries in particular just let me know.

A mate of mine lived in River Point for over a year, and while we thought it was nice, our apartment now blows it out of the water. He even thinks so himself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,429 ✭✭✭brettmirl

Well I've made the plunge and gone with The Strand. The apartments there really are in a different league to most of the other ones I saw.

Thanks to everyone for the advice!

    When's the Apartment warming? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Seems theres quite a few Strand residents on here now, perhaps a strand residents beers could be on the cards in the future. The bar is on the doorstep after all.

Hated living in Dooradoyle and now that I'm out in West Limerick I'm missing it even more...

Hey Strand Boardsies! Just a quick question about the cable tv - do any of you have Channel 4? I don't seem to have it on my cable tv package in the apartment - do you?

Also, do you have any heat source in your bathroom? Mine is FREEZING! Makes going for a shower very difficult in the mornings!

    Very difficult??

I would have thought it would wake you right up!

I changed to sky pretty soon after moving in. I'm pretty sure I remember C4 not being part of the package, instead rubbish like ITV3 & 4.
As for the heating, my bathroom is always warm. If you have any queries just give the concierge Gary a call. He is spot on and will sort out any queries or problems you have promptly.

    Point taken.

Had similar experience with kersten mehl and would not bother enquiring about any of their properties.
