If you are not entitled to anything on jobseekers allowance because you dont satisfy the means test can you do a fas course and get the training allowance of €200 per week?

i.e is the training allowance means tested?

    Thanks,

No it's not means tested, you get the €204 plus a travel allowance depending on how far away you live from the training centre. some of the longer courses are called "work ready courses", if you do one of those, you won't be allowed to do another one for 2 years.

You'll also have to clock in and out everyday and you won't be paid if you're not there.

Is this still the case post-budget?

I read the following on the RTE News website

'Funding to FÁS and Skillsnet for training for those already in employment will also be cut and the FAS Training Allowance for new entrants not entitled to the Jobseekers' Benefit or Allowance will also be reduced.'

I recently ran out of stamps and had my allowance slashed to a pittance, no problem I thought because I'm starting a FAS course in January. I'm very worried now though, will I get the full training allowance or will I get the same reduced amount I'm currently getting on Jobseeker's allowance?

    Thanks
