Renault Megane boot lock broken - easy to replace?

    I've a 2003 renault megane (the newer ones), and the boot release has stopped working. It has been intermittent for a few months, but seems to be gone altogether now. Is mechanism is easy to replace; is it one modular unit?

    Did you ever get this sorted? I need to replace the bootlock mechanism on my 06 Megane (saloon). I'm heard its just a case of 2 screws, pull out the lock, disconnect and plug in the new one and reattach, is it that simple? That maybe its a simple block connector that clicks in/out.

    I would have thought you would need to terminate cables and the like, I've no experience in this at all, any insight would be helpful.

    Yeah, but I didn't do it myself; I dropped it in to the main dealer.

    BTW, I held on to the Megane up until 2015 (it was 13 years old then). At that stage, the front wipers stopped working, and locking one of the rear doors became an intermittent problem. It was time for me to change, so I went with a 1.2 petrol Octavia. I couldn't be happier.

    A common problem with the saloon is, when you open the boot, there is a wiring harness, from memory it's on the left hand side as you look into the boot from the outside, it's too tight & the wiring is being stretched every time the boot is opened, the wires break, the harness has to be opened up, & wiring repaired or soldered, leave the harness hanging a bit looser, it may not necessarily be a faulty lock mechanism

    If it's just the boot button release that's gone, they're a handy number to fix, screw out old, screw in New. Bought mine in local dealer think for about €45 but can be bought online cheaper

    Brought it to the main dealer last week as the boot initially didn't open, he diagnosed it was just the wiring problem, charged me €155 and fixed it supposedly, I could see the cabling you were talking about and that is now done.
    Only to notice the next day the boot is now registering as 'Open', even though it is physically and mechanically closed, so this means the car won't lock, the cabin light stays on and every time I take-off from a still position the car attempts to self-lock without success, so this gets kind of frustrating at every traffic light.

    I informed the dealer of the new problem and he is saying that because the wiring is fixed that power is now correctly supplied to the lock mechanism and therefore is indicating there is a fault within the lock mechanism itself (ie. internal wiring etc.). So for them to order a new one and fit it is €170!!

    So I'm considering ordering the lock mechanism myself and fitting it, with no prior experience however. From some research it seems to be a simple 'screw off the existing lock, disconnect the cable and reattach the new lock'. A 5min job even...

    Does this seem realistic? Is it just plug in the block connector and away we go or do I need to mess around with cables and terminating etc?

    Normally I would have locked this 2009 thread when it was dug up, but since there are no replies until now and OP actually responded we'll leave it open but moved to DIY

    Did you try disabling & re-enabling the autolock feature to see if that made any difference?
