I think that was the guy I got as "which cyclist are you most like" on a facebook quiz. Obviously incorrect, he is out in bad weather.

I really wanted to be like Lance...

Was a fan of Andy's but he was always overshadowed by LeMond ( Whom I think was a better rider than Lance! oops is that considered flaming). I was fascinated at the time when he stated that he "tried to keep his pulse rate at 170/175 on the big climbs". Remember this was at a time when heart rate monitors were only found in hospitals (her in Ireland anyway!) I think it was about 1990 when bought my first heart rate monitor.

Also liked the 7-Eleven jersey. Anybody still have one? The glasses looked cool too.

The strange thing is although Andy Hampsten is often remembered for that epic ride through a blizzard in the 1988 Giro d'Italia he finished second on the stage to Erik Breukink.
Of course he is also famous for winning the TDF stage to l'Alpe d'Huez in 1992.

Oakley factory pilots ;) an aquired taste

Love the bikes, handbuilt Serotta's badged as Huffy's

Supposedly a clean rider as well FWIW

It effectively won him the Giro though. Not that I was watching at the time, it's just what I read.

Convinced he was one of the few clean riders.
Still have a pair of Rudy Projects from that era (couldn't afford Oakleys) so much perspex that they covered half my cheek bones!

Well as David Walsh said, he went from being one of the top 3 climbers in the world to just about top 30 in the early 90's.

I love the bit where he says the peleton used to go at about 15mph for the first 2 or 3 hours of every stage. Man I could have ridden the Tour de France.
