Going to the UK for 1 or 2 days on an Irish STAMP 4

    Hi,

I am not getting the information I need on the websites for UK border agency or their service centre's website.

I started a new job and my new employer wants me to fly to London for a day to attend induction into the firm. Now I know most NON EU nationals require a visa to the UK but I have heard that people on Stamp 4 do not require a visa to the UK for short trips & can go their simply with their passport, gnib card and an irish re-entry visa.

I just wanted to ask people if they have personally done so in the past or if they can give me any sort of information or links for the same.

It would be a great help.

    Thank you!

Best bet is to contact the British Embassy in Ballsbridge or fill in the questionnaire on this page: http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/

Having an Irish Gnib card with the stamp 4 does not give you any right to travel to the UK without a visa unless you hold a passport that allows you to travel to the UK without a visa anyway (for example, a Mexican passport).

If people from your country generally require visas to go to the UK, you would also need to apply for such a visa in advance at the UK embassy in Dublin. It would be an offence to go to the UK (incl. Northern Ireland) without having a visa.

In response to the Chancer007's comment about the latin american girl travelling to Europe (France (or Holland)- a Schengen State) or the UK without a visa, this is not fully true. A non-EU national can go without a visa to a Schengen State/UK without a visa if: 1) s/he has a passport that allows such travel without visas to Schengen States (as in the case with many Latin American countries), or if 2) s/he has a refugee document, or 3) if s/he has an EUFam card issued by an EU state including Ireland (a member of an EU citizen's family).

However, in most cases, when travelling to the UK (by plane), there are no passport checks, althouth lately they introduce occasional on-spot checks.
So, if you are lucky, you could go to the UK without a visa, but you also can be caught and deported.

To summarise: Irish stamp 4 issued based on your working status (or your Irish-born child) does not allow you to travel to the UK/Europe without a visa, and you would have to apply for a visa in advance.

If you are flying you will be fine in most cases as there are no checks on flights coming from Ireland in most airports. Sometimes there are checks apparently but I have been with my partner who is on Stamp 4 to Heathrow (more than once), Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh and we were never checked.

The safest bet is to get a letter from your employer and go to the British embassy. There should be no problem, but if you don't follow the rules and get caught it could be a very short trip.

There may not be passport checks when you get to the UK, but there are in Ireland, before you leave. I don't know about Aer Lingus, but if you are flying on Ryanair on a non EU passport, you have to go to go to their check in desk to get your passport and visas checked. I presume it is to make sure that you are legit to travel to where ever you are going to, so that they are not on the hook for transporting you back to Ireland if you are denied entry in to your destination.

If every thing is ok, they stamp your boarding pass. You can't board the plane (with a non EU passport) unless you have that stamp on the boarding card. So the OP would be advised to look into what the visa situ actually is for the UK. They may be denied travel if they don't.
