Nedbank Golf Challenge, Sun City, South Africa

    Robert Allenby E-W 15/1(Stan James)

Has been playing very well of late, last six finishes quite impressive.

He is in a really postive frame of mind and I believe a win is on the horizon.

    Richard Sterne E-W 28/1 (Skybet)

Value price in a limited field, The South African has a great record in his home country, 3 of his 5 European Tour Wins have come in SA.

Chevron World Challenge, Thousand Oaks, California, USA

    Camilo Villegas E-W 15/1 (Paddypower)

Had a decent performance here last year when finishing Tied 5th, Brilliant form towards the end of 2008 season winning two massive tournaments back to back, he has done little of note this year which is a surprise. A bit erractic at times but is a quality player and I would expect to see him win again sooner rather than later.

His last 6 tournament finishes read:
    T13 (9 shots behind 2nd & 3 rounds in the 70's)
    T23 (9 shots behind 2nd and 2 rounds in the 70's)
    T6
    Missed Cut (opening round 77)
    29th (opening rounds of 75 & 74)
    Missed Cut (opening round 76)

    Not that impressive.
He is in a really postive frame of mind

    Aren't all golfers pre tournament?

    Richard Sterne E-W 28/1 (Skybet)

Value price in a limited field, The South African has a great record in his home country, 3 of his 5 European Tour Wins have come in SA

You haven't mentioned that this is his first time playing in the event.
    He's played 3 events in November - he was tied for 80th, 112th & 60th.

Straight from the horses mouth 'I think the first tee will be the most nervous I will ever be in a golf tournament because it's such a big occasion and also because there's more pressure on me'

Anyway all the best, hope you win.

Robert Allenby last six finishes include a:
    T13
    T23
    3
    T6

This is a good record in my opinion.

I am aware that this is the first time Sterne played here but he is not the only player doing that, his recent form is not great but the fact the he plays well in South Africa and the price of 28/1 in a limited field is reason enough to back him.

I'll have a stab at Anthony Kim this week. Has had a poor season having promised so much, I think its time he got back in the winners enclosure.

Good call an Allenby (allbeit with the incorrect stats and perception)

Other selections not good - hope you didn't lose too much on them.

From a personal point of view I prefer to place win bets, as most likely you placed something in the line of €10 e/w on each selection totally €60 so your totally profit would only be €120+. If you placed €20 win bets, your profit would be €240 (double). I know you probably think well if one of them got placed then I'd get my money back in total, but most of the time each-way selections in golf end up being tied 3-4-5 players so you actually get very little as a return so when you do have winning selections you hit the jackpot. Just my tuppence worth on how I bet on golf. If I was placing €10 e/w bets (which I don't) I'd rather have €15 win.

Allenby hit 2 beautiful iron shots on the final 2 play-off holes.

    Had Stenson myself :(

Have a thread in the challenge section so feel free to add your thoughts for during 2010.

How many each-way places were paid in this weeks two events?

    Well done

Thank you, great win for Allenby, my reasoning for backing him was very sound I think. Only had €10 Each-Way on Allenby and Villegas who was quite useless despite his Albatross on the last day, just €5 Each Way on Sterne who finished last I think. So a €157.50 profit. Sometimes spend more depending on what the chance of success is. Maybe more profitable to back to just to win but have had a few each-ways at big prices.

Each Way in the Nedbank was 1/4 odds, first three places.

In the Chevron it was 1/5 odds, first four.

Alfred Dunhill Championship, Leopard Creek, South Africa

    E Molinari E-W 25/1 (skybet)

Has played three times here missing the cut twice and T28 once but he has developed a lot in the last year, topped the Challenge tour earnings for 2009, Has also won the Dunlop Phoenix tournament and World Golf Cup with Italy in the last few weeks.

    L Oosthuizen E-W 25/1 (ppower)

Missed last three cuts here but had a T2 back in 2005 but tournament has had 3 South African winners in last 5 years and I think it could be his turn. He has also had a decent 2009 record.

    T Aiken E-W 28/1 (ppower)

Another South African who was T4 here last year, also has a decent 2009 record.
